November PAD Chapbook Challenge 2019: Day 14: A Fetch Story Poem: Man Becomes Myth

Image by vishnu vijayan from Pixabay

he thinks that
he's a simple man
but he is
a legend
he is a million deep dreams
I a silent sigh

A Shadorma for Gerry from Pepper

Note:
Today's November PAD Chapbook Challenge was to write a myth poem. It didn't have to be about an established myth. I wrote another Fetch story poem.

Gerry Clifford, the story's male protagonist, came from a working-class background and became a successful and well-paid musician. He never thought of himself as a rock star and made a point not to indulge in "rock star" attitudes.

Pepper Baiij, the story's female protagonist, is a troubled woman whose family always wanted to be wealthy and instilled the belief in her that if you are anything but a member of high society, you are nothing. Pepper believes herself to be fatally flawed and can't understand how Gerry could feel anything but disdain for her.

Gerry sees himself as a very simple person and can't imagine why anyone would take the least bit of interest in him outside of his skill set. To Pepper, Gerry is a legend and impossibly high above her.

The image references another part of the story. Pepper and Gerry met previously in an ill-fated lifetime on a dying planet where she was a powerless princess of a ruthless dictatorship ruled over by her brutal older half-brother and Gerry was a lowly thief captured by said half-brother and presented to the princess as a replacement for the bodyguard her brother killed in a fit of rage. This gesture was intended as a jest on the part of the king, but the princess accepted the diminutive, elven thief as her new bodyguard and the pair formed a powerful though ultimately ill-fated bond.

Carpe Diem Weekend Meditation #108 + OctPoWriMo 2019: Day 26: What Is Unspoken (Choka)

what is unspoken
in the silence of autumn
is what I'm feeling
"speak your truth," the leaves whisper
but what can I say?
I'm biting my tongue
because what I want to say
is I still love you
wish you hadn't gone away
please come back to me
walk alongside me again
the crunching of leaves
sweeter walking together

Carpe Diem Field of Flowers: Cornflower

cornflower blue eyes
yellow sun surrounding black
pretty rainbow eyes
where have you gone dreaming now
have you become the music

For Gem and Gerry

Notes:
If you prefer poetry without trivia, the bus stops here.
If you enjoy Cie's various ramblings, stick around.

This little trivia blurb was created by me for a trivia post regarding eyes which appear to change color. This is the result of a harmless condition called central heterochromia. This person's eyes were primarily blue, but there was a circle of yellow pigment close to the pupil which caused the eye to appear green or hazel depending on the light. I just thought this was a really interesting phenomenon.
The person whose eyes were used as an example of this condition is no longer among the land of the living, and I kind of don't feel like talking about that.
Gerry Clifford, the male protagonist in Team Netherworld's longest-running WIP, Fetch, is described by the smitten Pepper Baiij as having rainbow eyes.
Rainbow Eyes is one of my favorite songs. It was written by Ritchie Blackmore and the late Ronnie James Dio.

Fetch: I Just Wanted You to Know

A Lost World Version 4
Photoshop Art by The Real Cie

I just wanted you to know
You seemed eternal, you know
And part of my mind which doesn't work quite right believes
That this is still what's going on
And you aren't dead and gone
Taken from the world
By a disease that destroyed your mind

I'm sorry I got angry with you
For something which was in no way your fault
I believed in you
I wanted to meet you
I wanted to be your friend
I knew no-one like you could ever love me
I know for a fact that no-one can
But I hoped that maybe you would like me just a little

I still love you
But I fuck everything up
I wish that we could reconnect
I wish that we could try again

I'm so hungry for something I haven't a recipe for
I want to believe in magic
I want to believe in dreams
I want gentle ghosts to haunt my graveyard
And my house and my carousel

I want you to come visit me across time
I would give you a place to hide
In my heart or my pocket
I keep your picture in my broken locket
Beautiful little fractured spirit
You are so much more than you know

I wish that I could hold you to my breast
And soothe the sorrow from your soul
The feeling does go both ways, you know
I still love you
I would try again a million times

Sweet thief of hearts
Come steal my heart
Again
And again
And again

Five Line Fetchy Fragment: Hunger

I'm so hungry for something I haven't a recipe for
I want to believe in magic
I want to believe in dreams
I want gentle ghosts to haunt my graveyard
And my house and my carousel

Cie for Gem
Ondina for Serab
Pepper for Gerry

Prompt Used:

You can stop right there and just read the poem, or you can continue on and read the long and rambling notes.

Notes:
This story poem was created for Team Netherworld's longest-running WIP, Fetch, which is a Lovecraftian paranormal romance.
Fetch's protagonist is Gerry Clifford, a Scottish musician raised in London's seedy Crouch End borough from the time he was twelve years old. (As inspired by Stephen King's Lovecraftian short story, Crouch End, which can be found in the 1980 anthology, New Tales of the Cthulhu Mythos.) As Gerry's cognitive and physical abilities deteriorate, he is placed in London's Candlelight Ridge Care Home. Gerry's spirit begins to go AWOL from a body which no longer works properly, and he discovers that the unfortunate residents at Candlelight Ridge are not simply succumbing to the ravages of age and infirmity, their souls are being harvested by Yadira Root, an ancient high priestess of the notorious Cthulhu Cult and the daughter of Nyarlathotep himself. Pursued by a hostile hive entity, Gerry turns to troubled American medium Pepper Baiij for help.
Many millennia previously in another star system and possibly another dimension, Gerry was a thief named Serab. Serab was a member of a race persecuted by West Zecor's tyrannical King Qweh, who captured the hapless thief one day and presented him to his sister Princess Ondina, an empath whose primary function was attempting to ameliorate the destruction and chaos caused by Qweh.
Qweh hoped for Ondina to be irritated when he gave her the tiny, elfin Serab as a replacement for her slain bodyguard, but Ondina did not react as Qweh hoped. She treated Serab respectfully. There was an immediate attraction between Ondina and Serab, although Ondina was statuesque, stately, and a member of the ruling class while Serab was small, rough, and a member of an oppressed race.
When Serab was brutally murdered by Qweh at the end of the doomed planet Zecor's existence, Ondina sent his soul to "the realm of the yellow sun" with the admonition that the pair must never meet again. Ondina hoped to protect her beloved from Qweh's threat that he would destroy Serab in any lifetime where he and Ondina reunited.
Serab eventually reincarnated as Gerry Clifford while Ondina reincarnated as Pepper Baiij. The star-crossed lovers were finally reunited when Gerry's spirit or Fetch began leaving his body in search of help.
It's doubtful that Fetch will ever be published in any kind of cohesive form. It remains Team Netherworld's favorite WIP.

Carpe Diem Summer Challenge 2019 + The Tuesday Platform: Beachcomber

missing the malls
on the ocean beach
she gathers shells
what is there to miss in malls?
beaches are so much better

high tide
the beach leaves a mark
in her book
she will always remember
this new home away from home

afternoon wind
all the beachcomber's words
blown out to sea
words written on the shoreline
she hopes that he could see them

cold beach walk
on sun-warmed car seats
two sweatshirts
one for her, one for her son
the one who means everything

a special beach
I put a pebble in my mouth
before leaving
wishing to taste the ocean
one last time before going

smelling the light
on her tanned shoulder
home from the beach
this home away from her home
in her memory always

The Hokku of these Renga were written by Jane Reichhold (1937 - 2016). The Ageku were created by me.
The sum total is a story poem about Pepper Baiij, the protagonist in Team Netherworld's long-running WIP, Fetch. These story poems help keep the WIPs we aren't able to work on as much alive.

Poems in April: Day 10: In Thrall

Have you ever been in thrall
Of someone who was just so
Bad and so entirely wrong
You walk in heart wide open

Know your heart will be broken
But you can't resist the pull
Though you know that it's a lie
You can kiss your life goodbye

~Pepper Baiij for Kris Rooiakker~

Notes:
This poem has some 'splainin' to do.
First, why would I take on ANOTHER daily challenge when I'm already involved with two of them?
I could blame the bipolar disorder, but I think the truth is, I'm genuinely insane. I'm not referring to the bipolar disorder part. That's mental illness. Mental illness is not insanity. Insanity is knowing something isn't realistic and doing it anyway. I have a proven track record of insanity.
The second factor involved here is my intent to finally publish a book of my poetry at the end of the year. I don't need to worry about publishers who insist that only previously unpublished works appear. The book will be published by Team Netherworld Creations, a seedy little independent press of which I am the Head Buttmunch in Charge. I don't have such rules. With any book I publish, whether it is written by me or someone else, the author retains all rights to do whatever they want with their material at any time.
Now, about the poem.
The poetry form is Jueju. I wrote two quatrains with seven syllables in each line.
Pepper Baiij is the female protagonist in Team Netherworld's long-running WIP, Fetch. The first chapter of this tale emerged in November 2014. The work is nowhere near ready for publication, but new chapters and poems are always emerging. Maybe someday we'll actually have a finished product.
Kris Rooiakker is an actor with whom Pepper became obsessed in her younger days. He is a psychic vampire. He found Pepper on the astral plane and took advantage of her vulnerability and low self-esteem. Pepper's obsession with Kris cooled many years ago, but he doesn't like being ignored. He keeps coming back to pester her.
The prompt asked writers to grab a book and find a sentence, then:
Use all the words of this sentence in a poem
OR
Pick a word or phrase from this sentence for the title of your poem
OR
Use a part or the entirety of this sentence as the first or the last line of your poem

Now, as it happens, I had the manuscript for Carnal Invasion VI: The Dark Delights of Mistress Kali open for reference in working on the forthcoming Carnal Invasion XI: Good Sports. (I am also the Head Buttmunch in Charge of Naughty Netherworld Press, which is Team Netherworld Creations' lust-crazed sibling.) I found a sentence suitable for public consumption and used the words "in thrall" for the title of the poem and in the first line of the poem. Here is the original sentence.
“No, Jefe, she ain’t hurt, but she in thrall of La Jefa,” Krystal whispered. “You can peek in, sí, but don’t say nothin’. Like I say, we don’t wanna end up being prisoners.”
If you are interested in learning more about the series of novels that this book came from, visit the Naughty Netherworld Press blog, where you will find snippets from the stories and links to purchase the books.

OctPoWriMo 2018: Day 29: Three of Swords

At the Beginning of the End Version 6
Photoshop Manipulation by The Real Cie

In unity were we well met
But that was before
My soul was crushed by the duality
Of everything and nothingness
When my soul was still filled with belief
In things spiritual and mystical
Now nothing is left but pain and sadness
Within this empty human life
You were perfection
I was lucky to find you
In a life full of suffering
You were a gift of great auspiciousness
I was destroyed when I lost you
And now all I have
Is loneliness
And nothingness
Eternally

Ondina Rvaga
Regent, Lost Zecor

Notes for Nerds:
This is one of the story poems for Team Netherworld's WIP, Fetch.
The story, at its core, is Cthulhu Mythos fan fiction combined with elements from an original Star Trek episode (The Lights of Zetar) which gave me nightmares from the time I first saw it at the age of ten years old.
Ondina Rvaga is a reluctant princess of Western Zecor on the planet Zetar 6. She spends her time working in a laboratory, using her empathic gifts to heal the victims of her violent and sadistic brother King Qweh if she can, compassionately dispatching them to the realm of spirit if she cannot.
The people of West Zecor love the Princess Ondina and know her to be kind, but they also realize that she does not have much power to help them. Her brother is extremely powerful and controls the armies of West Zecor. Brutal soldiers happily do his bidding.
Ondina is miserable in her existence. She does not expect to find love. She had been expected to marry her twenty-four-year-old half-brother, Prince Qweh, when she was twelve years old. She was resigned to her fate, believing herself blessed until she discovered Qweh's true, brutal nature. At that point, she used her healing gifts in reverse and destroyed her reproductive organs so she could never conceive an heir for the corrupt regime.
Qweh knew that Ondina loved her people and couldn't bear to see them in pain. Over the years, he reveled in watching her suffer as she attempted to heal those devastated by the brutal attacks of his armies.
After Qweh groped her during a scouting mission, Ondina attempted to commit suicide by jumping from a precipice. She was encouraged by the spirit of Serab's twin brother Joub to repair her injuries. He promised her that someone who would bring the love that she could never have imagined was about to enter her life.
Days later, Serab was apprehended by King Qweh's lackeys and brought to Ondina as a joke. The king laughingly postulated that the tiny Serab, who stood approximately five feet three inches tall, replace Ondina's previous bodyguard, who had been slain by Qweh in a fit of rage. Ondina, however, did not see the suggestion as a joke. She claimed Serab as her bodyguard and assistant and treated him with a compassion which he had not thought possible from a member of West Zecor's wicked royal family.
Serab and Ondina were smitten with each other from the start but initially attempted to keep their feelings in check.
When the ill-advised sorcery of King Qweh under the direction of Yadira, High Priestess of Nyarlathotep, caused the demon sultan Azathoth to trigger the small sun in Zetar's binary star system to begin consuming the large sun, the majority of Zecor's residents fled to other worlds. Ondina, Serab, and Ondina's longtime friend and caretaker Xegran along with Qweh and his most devoted lackeys were still on the planet when the gamma rays rendered their spaceships useless.
Ondina had planned all along to take herself, Serab, and Xegran through a gate to "the realm of the Yellow Sun," a peaceful, primitive world many light years away. Qweh demanded that Ondina bring himself and his toadies along as well. When she refused, he beheaded Xegran and brutalized Ondina. Serab was slain when he stepped in to defend his beloved. In spite of his protests, Ondina dispatched his spirit and that of Xegran to the Realm of the Yellow Sun.
Although Qweh and his lackeys were unable to invade the new world, they were not doomed to an inevitable death. Utilizing scientific and mystical abilities taught to him by the powerful High Priestess Yadira, Qweh caused the astral bodies of himself and his companions to form a community of pure energy; for all intents and purposes, a giant, malevolent brain. The hive entity sped away from the doomed world, leaving Ondina to her fate.
The traumatized Ondina believed herself to be at fault for the death of her old friend and her beloved. She tenderly lay each of their bodies in state beside her and spent the next six hours dying with only her regrets for company. She resolved to stay well away from Serab forever so that Qweh would not punish her by harming him in future lifetimes.
The heartbroken Serab never forgot Ondina. In lifetime after lifetime, he attempted to find her, although he forgot the exact nature of his original purpose.
Serab was reunited with Ondina during his most recent lifetime, although they did not encounter each other in the flesh. He was, for all intents and purposes, part of the spirit world. Although his body still lived, he was no longer able to function properly through it. Gerry was a Fetch, an Irish term essentially describing a ghost which has a body that still lives but through which it is temporarily or permanently unable to interface.
Ondina had reincarnated as Pepper Baiij, a troubled woman with strong mediumistic abilities which she tended to write off as delusion. Pepper knew who Gerry was. Along with his brother, Paul, he was a well-known musician whose work she admired.
Pepper was the only person who could help Gerry, who was being pursued by Yadira Root. This left Gerry in a precarious position. On a good day, Pepper believed strongly in her abilities and in Gerry's affection for her. On a bad day, her self-deprecation caused her to believe that she was merely insane, and/or that Gerry was yet another cad who would use her to get what he wanted and then leave her high and dry.
The story is far from finished, although it has, sadly, had to be back-burnered recently. These story-poems are, I feel, a valid form of keeping it viable.

OctPoWriMo 2018: Day 12: Affliction

Why did you have to afflict yourself on me?
Why did you invade my dreams and haunt my days?
Excruciating need, I could not get free

Like a psychotic demon child who plays
Bringing torment to his victim's mind and soul
Agonizing want for one who never stays

Heart afflicted with the pain you live to dole
Is there no-one to appease, to bring me aid?
Where do I find comfort and regain control?

Someone heal, soothe, and relieve me, I have prayed
Free me from a man who just wants to get laid

~Pepper~

Note:
This piece is created in the voice of Team Netherworld's OC, Pepper Baiij, for our WIP, Fetch. The poem "honors" one Kris Rooiakker, a living person who took advantage astrally of the sensitive and troubled medium for many years before she finally found the strength to break free.

The Dead World

Perennial tears descend in gems
From the eyes of those who remember when
They weep: from off their delicate stems
Where leaves will never grow again
Eternal dews come down in drops
In a flood which seems will never stop
They wave: from out their fragrant tops
Poison rain destroys good crops
And weep above a nameless grave!
In this world where nothing can be saved
Over the lilies there that wave
On the seashore, near the cave
In myriad types of the human eye
None of them notice when I cry
Over the violets there that lie
My breath escapes in a hopeless sigh
Uneasily from morn till even
I search in vain to find a reason
That rustle through the unquiet Heaven
Naught is revealed in study or sweven
Ah, by no wind those clouds are driven
In vain another day I've striven
Around the misty Hebrides!
A voice moans mournful through the trees
That palpitate like the chill seas
Ah, by no wind are stirred those trees
The moans cause the blood in my veins to freeze
Over the magic solitude
A feeling of terror doth intrude
Nothing save the airs that brood
Can be envisioned or construed
Nothing there is motionless
An invisible hand my cheek does caress
The sad valley's restlessness
Brings to my soul a deep distress
Now each visitor shall confess
Now each mind will begin to regress
The red sunlight lazily lay
Over the kingdom far away
In the midst of which all day
The devout bow their heads to pray
To keep watch above the flowers
To drive away the terror of the hours
Nightly, from their azure towers
Whilst death rains from the sky in showers
Trusting to the mild-eyed stars
To take them somewhere very far
They had gone unto the wars
Knowing not what they were fighting for
Where the people did not dwell
The world made a living hell
Once it smiled a silent dell
O'er the land rang the sound of a funeral bell

Fetch: Dreamland Dictionary

A cup of dreams by dandingeroz

A teacup means I drink you in
A hammer means my heart you'll break
A seagull means you've flown away
To the land where breezes carry the stench of decay
A ballet slipper means
I'm dancing through lost dreams
Of childhood long gone
Of hope torn at the seams
Shark means I'm consumed by troubles
Wobbly table, my precarious ground
I'm cast out because no-one wants to bear witness
As the tears from my eyes stream down
A dentist in my dreams
Means I should shut my damn mouth
Before I say the wrong words
And everything goes south
A rowboat means I want to sail away
To where my lost seagull has flown
Take me with you to the Land of Dreams
I can't bear to be here on my own

Pepper's Fetch

Beautiful Boy Version 13
Photoshop Manipulation by The Real Cie

I can feel you near
I can see you in my mind
But not with my eyes

From Pepper
With love for Gerry

Notes:
I believe we technically followed the prompt today. We were asked to create a poem about something magical. Gerry Clifford certainly qualifies.
Pepper initially encountered Gerry while working in a retirement community on the night shift. Gerry was not a resident of said retirement community, located in Lawrence, Kansas. He was thousands of miles away in London. However, his physical brain was badly impaired. He was a spirit still attached to his body, a being described in Irish folklore as a "Fetch."
Pepper knew who Gerry was. He was drawn to her by the intensity of her sadness upon learning of his fate. However, the instant they encountered one another, it became clear that there was another force drawing them together, something which Pepper initially tried to deny for fear of being hurt again as she had been so many times before.
Gerry was the one being in the entire Cosmos for whom Pepper would refute her vow never to allow herself to fall in love again. Her resistance didn't last long.

Serab's Senryu: The Ghosts of What Was

Zetar's End Version 13
Photoshop Manipulation by The Real Cie

Sometimes I sense ghosts
From a world long dead and gone
I weep for what was

~Serab~

Cie's notes:
Serab is a past incarnation of the musician Gerry Clifford, the main male protagonist in Team Netherworld's eternal WIP, Fetch. Serab was a resident of Zetar 6 (Zecor), a world with a binary star system where the smaller sun began pulling energy off the larger sun, setting off a nova which destroyed the inner planets and rendered the sixth planet incapable of sustaining life.
Serab in spirit form viewed the nova just before being relocated to a place which his beloved Princess Ondina, a powerful sorceress, referred to as "the Realm of the Yellow Sun."
In her grief and guilt over Serab's murder by her brutal and jealous megalomaniac brother King Qweh, Ondina believed it necessary that she and Serab should never again cross paths. Serab's longing for Ondina eventually overrode her spell, and, near the end of his lifetime as Gerry Clifford, he found her again. She had reincarnated as Pepper Baiij, a medium living with major mental illness whose life had never gone quite right.
As Gerry and Pepper became reacquainted and their love rekindled, memories of their past incarnations on Zecor were awakened, and an old and dangerous foe re-emerged in the form of Yadira Root, a powerful high priestess of Nyarlathotep, whose plans for Gerry were most unsavory.
TL:DR
We majorly deviated from the prompt given today.

A Fetchy Shadorma: The Blue Garage

The Blue Garage
Photoshop image by The Real Cie

I went down
 Went down to the blue
To the blue
Blue garage
Where I could hear the blues play
 But all was silent

You can still
Hear the blues playing
 A ghostly
Echo of
A voice that once was alive
A sound that rang strong

The music
Itself cannot die
Song is sung
On and on
But the blue garage is closed
Blue street is silent

From Pepper with love for Gerry
(who probably thinks this song is about him!)
http://www.napowrimo.net/day-four-6/
Notes:
Today the prompt was to describe an abstract idea using concrete nouns, and I think I did that. The blue garage is a metaphor, at any rate. Music itself cannot die, but musicians sadly do.
Fetch is the story that won't die in spite of repeatedly being stabbed with steely knives. Check it out here if you're so inclined

Senryu: Hidden

At the End of Everything Version 10
Photoshop Manipulation by The Real Cie

I am not ashamed
Of the one who haunts my heart
But must stay hidden

~Cie~

The prompt today asked participants to write about a secret shame. One of the suggestions was that one might be ashamed of eating "too many cookies." That's a trick statement, there is no such thing as too many cookies.
However, that is not what this poem is about.
I decided to do a little twist on the prompt. What if the secret is not something shameful, but must be hidden anyway. What if the poem's protagonist is homosexual but comes from a homophobic family? What if, as in many dramas, the protagonist is from a rich family and falls in love with a poor person, and their family does not approve?
I actually wrote the poem from the point of view of Pepper, the female protagonist from Team Netherworld's WIP, Fetch. Pepper, a medium, loves Gerry, a ghost. There is actually nothing shameful about Pepper's feelings for Gerry. They are both older adults. However, the majority of the populace would not understand Pepper's feelings. Thus, in order to avoid becoming a pariah or even being institutionalized, Pepper must keep her feelings to herself.

LONE
Lonely
Lonely me

I feel unwanted
I feel undeserving
I fear I'm fatally flawed

LONE, lonely me, fatally flawed

Notes:
Here is another work which is autobiographical to the author and also descriptive of Fetch's female protagonist, Pepper Baiij.
I desperately want to get back to working on stories again. I am lost without them.
At least I met Gem on the astral plane while in a troubled sleep that I hoped never to wake from.
In a world that wants sunshine, flowers, chirping birds, and unicorn farts, I bring you depressing poetry. Hence, I walk alone through this life.

OctPoWriMo 2017: Day 26: Wrong For This World

Wrong For This World
(The tale of Yours Truly and Pepper Baiij, the flawed female protagonist of Team Netherworld's WIP tale, Fetch)

You are wrong for this world, my schoolmates said
You're weird and scary and ugly too
No-one wants to be friends with you

They're right, you know, my inner voice hissed
Echoing the derision or my peers
You are wrong for this world, my schoolmates said

I was always off on flights of fancy to other worlds
To silence the hateful voices telling me
You're weird and scary and ugly too

Sometimes a gentle voice told me I was loved
But the other voice just laughed and mocked me
No-one wants to be friends with you

Space cadet, the other students sneered
Upon discovering my love for dreaming of the stars
My yearning for a place where I could be free

I always wondered if it were possible
Perhaps I had some sort of hidden worth
Space cadet, the other students sneered
