F.E.A.R.

I’m tired of adulting, it’s not working out for me
I hate this ugly alt-right, Brexiteer reality
I’ve developed coulrophobia with all the clowns around
Everyone’s a chatbot since the humans all left town
I’ll never climb a glass cliff, and I’ll never know how hygge feels
In a post-truth, reactionary world, only hate is real
They hate the Latinx, Middle Easterners, Asians and Blacks
Once you’re woke to the truth, you can never look back
I’ve never found hope to be in great supply
But these days it takes all I have to stop myself
From giving in to my urge to abide
By the old acronym
Fuck
Everything
And
Run

Cie
Far from hopeful for the future

There are more than 70 words in my poem
Kill the link if it, or the swearing, is a problem

Imaginary Garden With Real Toads

Adulting - The practice of behaving in a way characteristic of a responsible adult, especially the accomplishment of mundane but necessary tasks
Alt-right - An ideological grouping associated with extreme conservative or reactionary viewpoints, characterized by a rejection of mainstream politics and by the use of online media to disseminate deliberately controversial content
Brexiteer - A person who is in favour of the UK withdrawing from the European Union
Chatbot - A computer program designed to simulate conversation with human users, especially over the internet
Coulrophobia - Extreme or irrational fear of clowns
Glass cliff - Used with reference to a situation in which a woman or member of a minority group ascends to a leadership position in challenging circumstances where the risk of failure is high
Hygge - A quality of cosiness and comfortable conviviality that engenders a feeling of contentment or well-being, regarded as a defining characteristic of Danish culture
Latinx - A person of Latin American origin or descent, used as a gender-neutral or non-binary alternative to Latino or Latina
Post-truth: an adjective relating to circumstances in which objective facts are less influential in shaping public opinion than emotional appeals.
Woke - Originally in African-American usage meaning alert to injustice in society, especially racism

OctPoWriMo 2016: Day 31: Eternal

Eternal
(The song of Serab and Ondina)

Serab:
The songbirds flying through the sky
Are singing to you of my love
For so long I was alone
Heaven sent your heart to beat with mine
You are like an angel from above
You give me more than I have ever known

Ondina:
I used to envy the birds in the air
I used to be without song in my heart
Everything seemed lonely and cold to me
You taught me how to care
I never want us to be apart
I want your love for eternity

Both:
Our love is eternal, it will last for all time
For us to be parted would be the worst crime

OctPoWriMo 2016: Day 30: Simplicity

Simplicity
A duet between the living and the Undead

Her:
To love you would be simplicity, except I'm so afraid
Of being used by another liar in the lying liars parade
You're so perfect, you're so fine
You've stolen my heart and stolen my mind
You say you want to be mine, but I'm afraid if you get too close
You'll disappear along with my heart just like Casanova's ghost

Him:
To love you would be simplicity, except you won't let me in
Our love ain't got a chance to end if you won't even let it begin
I like being by your side, it's something I don't want to quit
Let me show you how I feel for you, even just a little bit
I ain't no Casanova, no Hugh Hefner, no Don Juan
I only want to love you, never want to do you wrong

Her:
Love ain't no simplicity
Love will be the death of me

Him:
If you let me give my love to you
There ain't nothing we can't do

Her:
I want to let you love me
I want to let you close
But I can't help wondering how many other girls
Love my pretty little ghost

Him:
They can love me all they want to
But I won't let them near
It's only your love that I want
Only you I want for my dear

Her:
I'm gonna let you love me
I'm gonna let you try
But I promise you're gonna suffer
If you ever make me cry

Him:
I never want to leave you
Never want to make you afraid
If anything I do ever grieves you
You can send me back to my grave

Her:
It would be simplicity to let you in

Him:
Then let me in
And we can begin

Both:
A love that's for eternity
A love that lasts forever
May not be simplicity
But we'll work to stay together

OctPoWriMo 2016: Day 29: Upside Down

Upside Down

Like a planet that's lost its gravity
Everything went topsy turvy for me
My life turned upside down
My life turned upside down

There was nothing that could be repaired
I was left alone and running scared
My world was upside down
My world was upside down

Nobody knew me any more
I felt like no-one gave a damn
I came lost and lonely to your door
You didn't have to, but you let me in

I couldn't help falling in love with you
I was afraid, and so were you
Your world turned upside down
The day I came to town

I don't want to hurt you, Baby
I just want to make things right
Let's take this upside down world of ours
And help each other see the light

Let's make it right
Let's make it right
Let's make it right

OctPoWriMo 2016: Day 28: Sea Shells

Serab:
We walked on the seashore lives ago
You were the most wonderful thing I knew
You sent me away, you say to save me
At that moment, I lost not only life
But all the hope that you had given me
To know that I would not see you again
Was worse than the most terrifying death
At times I wished that we had never met

Ondina:
I lost my world and worse, I lost my love
But you knew not what could be done to you
I love you more than the stars in the sky
More than all the seashells on every shore
I love you and miss you eternally

OctPoWriMo 2016: Day 27: Favorite Scent

My favorite scent is that of your hair
Lying behind you when you are sleeping
In forbidden embrace, holding you close
The princess and the commoner in love

You, lovelier than all the world's treasure
What beauty could you ever see in me?
Ugly little thief, the scourge of Zecor
Yet you treat me like the most precious thing

Ondina, I will never leave your side
I will protect you even with my life
I have nothing to give you but my love
My devotion to you is eternal

I treasure stolen moments in your arms
Breathing in the scent of your hair and skin
One day we will escape this awful place
One day we will be free to love at last

OctPoWriMo 2016: Day 26: Abandonment

Abandonment

He feels like an abandoned place
Something given no concern
Gone to not return
The tears flow down his face
His spirit in disgrace
Like a lover spurned
Like a lesson left unlearned
The loser in life's race
Not unloved as he believes
It is he who can't recall
Memories his mind can no longer chase
Not remembering what he achieved
Nor the reason the tears fall
Running cold down his lost face

http://www.123rf.com/profile_dvarg

The Red Curtain

What lies behind the red curtain, Pepper dear?
Is it the lost dreams of your wasted youth?
Is it everything that you have come to fear?
Is it the ugly, unforgiving truth?
You are everything that your young self despised
Perhaps it is she who will confront you now
Perhaps you'll see your wretched life eulogized
But who would wish to remember you anyhow?
Do you think that anyone could ever love you?
Do you think that your precious ghost will want to stay?
Why would anyone stay when they don't have to?
At first chance, he'll surely run away
You'll be alone forever in the end
No one even wants to be your friend

OctPoWriMo 2016: Day 24: Fantastical

Fantastical

I never meant to hurt you, my dear love
In a world full of pain and suffering
You are an angel from above
I live for every message that you bring
You gave to me such comforting
Your Earthly situation made me grieve
In this world of othering
Your love became too fantastical to believe

We fit together like a hand in glove
I wanted to heal you with my nurturing
Never has another made me feel so beloved
But I so fear rejection's sting
It's my soul you'd end up murdering
I'm so afraid you'd only leave
That my need for you is smothering
Your love became too fantastical to believe

With soft feathers like a peaceful dove
I would stroke your angel wings
You were everything I was dreaming of
But I fear I don't deserve anything
So I end up losing everything
I fear to give and to receive
You were too good for this world to bring
Your love became too fantastical to believe

I gave you my heart on a string
Then left you alone to grieve
My sad angel with the broken wings
Your love became too fantastical to believe

OctPoWriMo 2016: Day 23: Undoubtedly

Undoubtedly

It is you who possess my heart
Undoubtedly it's you
Try though I will, I can't break free
There's nothing I can do

You promised you'd love me always
Said you'd always be mine
You broke my heart undoubtedly
There's nothing left to find

You said it was us forever
Undoubtedly you lied
Why did you ever call to me?
There's nothing left inside

Not good enough for anyone
Not good enough to keep
Always alone, undoubtedly
Wish forever to sleep

OctPoWriMo 2016: Day 22: Dangerous

Dangerous

Love is something so dangerous
Something from which the wise one flees
Forever the domain of fools
Love brings warriors to their knees

So dangerous, so venomous
Like snakes, spiders and Man O War
You are left begging for mercy
When your love don't want you no more

Love was nothing I was seeking
It was what I tried to avoid
But when you came around, I fell
Even though I might be destroyed

You are dangerous to my heart
You could take what little is left
You could rip my soul to pieces
You could leave me wishing for death

I wish I could trust what you say
But so many have done me wrong
I'll try to trust and to believe
I'll pour my soul out in  a song

Now that I've found you, don't leave me
I want to be yours for all time
Promise you won't abandon me
And leave me alone and crying

Pure Soul

Your soul pure white like a heavenly dove
With a spot of red upon its breast
It seems you have been cursed, not blessed
Your life a hopeless search for love
I invited you to come to me
You were like a bird with a broken wing
You thought you'd forgotten how to sing
I wanted to try to help you see
While your voice in this world is gone
The song from your soul cannot be so
Shut your eyes and sing soft and low
With me you can always belong
Let your wings carry you to the Heavens up high
Where there will never be any more reason to cry

OctPoWriMo 2016: Day 19: Trees

The morning when we walked beneath
The arch of trees in the royal glade
I knew we would be leaving our world behind
I ignored the feeling of doom rising in my soul
I turned my dark premonition to Aubade
Because I wanted for our future to be one of joy
On that day, I lost everything
My hopes for our tomorrow
My dreams for our new beginning
I lost my world
I lost you
Perhaps that is why in my current lifetime
The coming of morning
Always makes me melancholy
I wish I could always sleep and never wake
I wish I could dream forever of you
But then the damned yellow sun
Comes through the window and forces me to remember
What was and what can never be again

OctPoWriMo 2016: Day 18: Senseless

The world continues on senselessly
Oblivious to the tragedy
Of lives that can no longer be
Of souls not allowed to be set free
Like zombies in the streets they roam
Home to work and work to home
Hearts as hard and cold as stone
Not seeing the things that they are shown
Their souls have long since died within
Like machines beneath the skin
Playing a game that they can never win
The sorrow of others feeds their need
They laugh as sufferers lie and bleed
Insatiable hunger, hateful greed

OctPoWriMo 2016: Day 17: Savory Love

One fool has fallen for another
He is piquantly pleasant to her mind
She thinks he is so very kind
And so she takes him for a lover
Anyone with sense would find him unappealing
But she believes he sets her spirit free
She finds him morally exemplary
His ugliness she cannot see
Because she is floating on the ceiling
Has she yet tasted his kiss
Does she find it pleasing to her lips
Has she felt his hands upon her hips
She carries out her duties with a skip
A woman with sense would surely give him a miss

Has anyone ever dared
To look into my mind in-depth
To see who I really am
Has anybody ever cared
To walk the path in step
To find out about this man
This lonely man, this broken soul
The one who's left out in the cold
Who will miss me when I'm gone
Who will ask themselves why
Will you miss the singer or the song
What kind of tears will you cry
I always felt like I didn't belong
I was only a silent sigh

OctPoWriMo 2016: Day 13: Lament for Zecor

Lament for Zecor

Zecor, my home world
Beautiful you were
Your pristine waters flowing
Like the hopes in my young heart
Beneath the gentle glow of the twin suns

The reign of an evil so extreme
Corrupted everything
Hatred took its toll
The small sun began to feed off of the larger
A malevolent haze glowed constantly in your once beautiful skies

Lost forever were you, Zecor
And lost with you was I
Unfortunate Princess Ondina
I always thought that I would never find love
Then one day love came quickly
And was as quickly taken from me

I died with you, Zecor
On the day the larger sun went nova
But my heart died at the moment
That I sent my love away
Far across the galaxy

The ghosts of Zecor still roam
Damned, restless spirits, attempting to invade
Destroying the unfortunate minds of their victims
In attempt to fulfill the insane quest of a madman

Spurred on by the vain hope of pleasing
The crone who serves the malignant master
In whose veins flows blood as cold as death
The joke will be on you when you discover
You were nothing but his pawns

I was drawn many miles from Zecor
Across time and space by a need so extreme
My love could be alone no longer
My broken heart could not resist his call

Fear not, Serab, your Ondina will never allow
You to be enslaved by the one who made the king a jester
All the riches in this world can't save you
Any more than Zecor could have been saved

The love in my heart will be your salvation
Your Ondina will not be taken from you again
 Zecor is dead
But our love remains forever

Strong Love

How can something so soft and gentle have such power
Our love is strong enough
To defy space and time

You sent me worlds away to keep me safe
Yet the need I have for you
Was strong enough to draw you back to me

A love this strong must not be denied
A force this powerful is sure to prevail
Soft as a feather, strong as a hurricane

Do not be so surprised, my sweet
That you could be the focal point
Of a love stronger than time

Of a love stronger than death

Of a love stronger than the Universe

OctPoWriMo 2016: Day 10: Unfolded

Unfolded

All my life I tried
To keep others from knowing the truth
About how lost I was inside
Many were the times I considered suicide
But I didn't want my family to worry

My heart is unfolded before you
I begin to unfold my secrets one by one
This broken man who never thought he would find
The love I thought could never be mine
You've inspired me to become

My secrets are unfolded to you
I've never allowed anyone else
To know the truth inside of me
Others would zero in on my insecurity
Use my faults to get the best of me
You encourage me and give me power

I am unfolded before you
You are my light in the darkness
You are my strength when I feel weak
This is the love I thought I'd never find
I promise to return it to you in kind
Let us not fear to be who we are

Unfolded to each other

OctPoWriMo 2016: Day 8: Porous

My Earthly mind has become porous
Like an autumn leaf decaying on the ground
I have fallen away
My soul is gone from my body
My body still remains

It isn't right
For a mind to decay this way
I wish my loved ones didn't have to suffer
I wonder why this was my fate
I tried to do right in my life
I never was perfect
But my ending seems unjust

I know it seems like I know nothing any more
But my soul remembers you
I'm still here, watching over you
I've seen how you suffer
I can't tell you how sorry I am

For some of us the ending isn't fair
You may think that I don't care any more
But my soul will always love you
Even if my mind can no longer recall
