I want to share this wonderful music with you. The details about the album are from Wikipedia. I hope you enjoy it.

Is It? is the fifth studio album by British singer-songwriter Ben Howard, released on 16 June 2023 via Island Records.

The album was created before and after Howard suffered two transient ischaemic attacks in 2022. The strokes, which affected his memory and speech, influenced Howard's songwriting on the album. Created with DJ-producer Nathan Jenkins (aka Bullion), the album features a distinctly electronic leaning. Glitches and loops populate the mix alongside "radiant" guitar ripples. The album combines treated vocals and atmospheric drum machines, to "create the story" of Howard's experience. The opening track playfully recalls this experience. The interlude "Total Eclipse" features manipulated language to render the effect.

The album was recorded at Le Manoir de Léon in Léon, Landes, France; and at Real World Studios in Box, Wiltshire, England.

The lead single from the album, "Couldn't Make It Up", was released on 20 April 2023, with the album announced the same day. A second single "Walking Backwards" was released 19 May 2023. The third single, "Life in the Time", was released on 7 June 2023.

Benjamin John Howard (born 24 April 1987) is an English singer songwriter, musician and composer. His self-released debut EP Games in the Dark (2008) was followed by two more EPs, These Waters (2009) and Old Pine (2010). Signed to Island Records, his debut studio album came in 2011 titled Every Kingdom. The album reached number four on the UK Albums Chart and was certified triple platinum by the British Phonographic Industry (BPI). Howard later released two more EPs, Ben Howard Live (2011) and The Burgh Island E.P. (2012).

At the 2013 Brit Awards ceremony he received two awards: British Male Solo Artist, and British Breakthrough Act. He performed at 2013 Glastonbury festival on the Pyramid Stage on Saturday 29 June. He released his second studio album, I Forget Where We Were, in October 2014, peaking at number one on the UK Albums Chart.

As of 2017, he is a member of the band A Blaze of Feather with India Bourne, Mickey Smith, Nat Wason, Rich Thomas and Kyle Keegan.

Howard's third studio album, Noonday Dream, was released in June 2018. It debuted at number four on the UK Albums Chart, and received favorable reviews from music critics. His fourth album, Collections from the Whiteout, was released in March 2021. He released his fifth album Is It? in June 2023.

Benjamin John Howard was born on 24 April 1987 in Richmond, south-west London, England, and moved near Totnes, Devon when he was about eight. He was raised by musical parents who exposed him to their favourite records from singer-songwriter artists from the 1960s and 1970s at an early age, such as John Martyn, Van Morrison, Joni Mitchell and Simon & Garfunkel, by whom he was strongly influenced.

Howard began writing songs when he was eleven. In an interview with American Songwriter, he stated that when he was a kid he started playing guitar because he liked to put words together and make stuff up. "I was quite an imaginative little kid I guess. So your standard little love songs turned into your standard adolescent love songs. I think you start getting your own take on things when you're a late teen. That's when everything changes." Besides playing the guitar, Howard also played other instruments as a kid. He easily picked up the drums and contrabass, but after some time he decided to focus on the guitar. After attending King Edward VI Community College and Torquay Boys' Grammar School he began studying Journalism at University College Falmouth. Six months prior to completion of his course, Howard decided to focus on making music full-time, making melodic rootsy folk music, with progressively darker lyrics. His reputation grew around Devon, and soon spread to other areas of the UK. After a month of sold-out dates across Europe and the UK Howard was eventually asked to sign for Island Records.

Due to his association with the town, Howard was chosen in 2014 to appear on the 10 Totnes pound note.

My son and I moved into this house in 2019. It had been vacant since 2011. Words cannot describe the derangement of the guy who lived here before us, a lunatic who tore out support walls and tacked on unstable additions that ended up harboring wasps. The addition was removed by a fellow and his daughter who brought their big excavator. 

I'm by no means a savvy real estate investor, but even I know that you don't try to fix and flip a house in the middle of nowhere.

My Haiga ended up being an antithesis to the original prompt. The prompt's author expresses joy at the memory of his wedding and states that he and his wife are still in love. My Senryu tells the story of my marriage to my son's father. I could certainly expand on everything that was wrong and everything that went wrong, but I feel the poem succinctly gets to the heart of the matter.

My son's father and I were able to heal our friendship over time. I believe we will be friends for life. For those who watch too many Hallmark romances, you can put the idea that there will be some sort of romantic reunion between us in our golden years right out of your heads. Neither of us are stupid enough to desire such foolishness. Besides, we've considered each other to be family for several decades, so the idea of a romance between us would be super weird at this point.

I couldn't think of a good title for the poem. Nil stands for Not In Love, and I reckon that works as good as anything else.

Grammarly warns me that the phrase "golden years" might be considered ageist.

This grouchy old bat warns Grammarly to fuck right off.

Lately, when driving to the city, some of the fields smell really, really bad. Feedlots always smell bad, but these are fields, not feedlots.

I can't help thinking that anything smelling this bad can't be good for the environment or the animals and/or people eventually consuming food grown in these fields. This isn't the odor of plain old manure. It's a cross between toxic waste and an open sewer.

I have made many aborted attempts over the years to write about the things that happened to me when I was young and how complex PTSD has affected my life. The fact is, it's difficult for me to write about these things in more than fragmented pieces such as this Haiga. I would like to tell my story on the chance that it might help someone else to hear it, but on the other hand, it's very hard for me to talk about it. 

I will say this much. I am the end result of years of bullying and abuse. If you are one of those people who thinks shaming and belittling will force anyone to become what you think they should be, you're wrong. 

A person who has been bullied and abused (same thing, really) may end up being a driven, type A personality. They may end up becoming successful. The things that drive them will, nonetheless, be destructive. Things such as a desire for revenge, a desire to prove those who abused them wrong, a desire to escape the pain of the past. Nobody escapes repeated mistreatment unscathed.

People with C-PTSD often have difficulty forming lasting relationships because we have difficulty trusting. I generally only form very superficial relationships with other people. I don't like to open up to people or become attached to them, because I expect them to betray me. 

I tend to come off as prickly and unfriendly. The truth is, I'm protecting myself. That being said, if you're an asshole to me, you can anticipate my being an asshole to you. My days of being a doormat are long behind me and I really don't care if anyone likes me or not. It might be nice if someone did, but I don't expect it. 

So, there's a slice of me. It's an acquired taste that most people don't tend to acquire. One person referred to me as flinty. I think that's reasonably accurate.

With works that could be interpreted as "just have a happy attitude and everything will be fine," I always like to iterate that there is no toxic positivity intended in my words. It's fine to not be fine. 

We had a household disaster last night with the demise of the refrigerator that was here when the house was purchased in September 2019. We got a bunch of stuff into the freezer in the pantry, then put some bags of frozen vegetables into the cooler and put the eggs and lunch meat in the cooler. We still had to throw a bunch of stuff out.

I did some research online and my son and I were intending to purchase a refurbished refrigerator from a used appliance store. We were told they wouldn't deliver to our little bump in the road, so I asked if the guy knew where we could get a U-Haul.

"I dunno, there's one in town somewhere," he said.

Big help, Dude. Perhaps he hadn't heard of this thing called the internet, which he had just used to go to Google Maps and look up our town.

Being the tech-savvy prairie witch I am, I used my smartphone to seek out a U-Haul location. The first address we went to was no longer a U-Haul location. At the second place, we spoke to a very helpful lady but ended up deciding we weren't going to purchase a refrigerator from Used Appliance Place. 

By the time we paid for the cost of renting a U-Haul, the bargain price wasn't looking like that much of a bargain. Also, as my son pointed out, given the level of "customer service" we encountered at Used Appliance Place, he didn't trust the workmanship of their products. Also, I had been ignoring the fact that the refrigerator still smelled stanky in favor of possibly getting a replacement for our non-working refrigerator at a low price.

We went to Walmart and bought a mini-fridge for $150 to store essentials such as eggs. We found an actual bargain refrigerator for around $600 from Walmart.com, and it will be delivered on October 5. In the meantime, we have to deal with Teeny Fridge, but my son had been wanting to get a mini-fridge for upstairs anyway.

Then I have to drive back to Greeley this morning for my speech therapy appointment. I had an eye appointment in Lafayette on Monday. I try to limit my trips to once a week, so not feeling the love right now.

The point of the Haiga is our attitude of "shit happens" helped us move things along better than if we'd gotten angry and wallowed in it. It's acceptance, not toxic positivity. We aren't happy about having to spend $600 on a new refrigerator. However, it looks like a darn nice refrigerator for the price, and we expect it will be a serviceable appliance.

Toxic positivity is never welcome here. The goal is to move forward and not get mired in the shit life throws at you.

The Pinnacle

The cabin in sixteen-year-old Shideh O’Floinn’s dream was not user-friendly. Innumerable steep steps carved into a slender peak of white stone led to the confounding cottage. The dream always culminated with Shideh plummeting from the precipice just as she reached the strange edifice. Right before she hit the ground, a gust of wind whispered “thirty-two.”

“It’s a foolish structure,” Shideh told her father as the pair prepared for a climbing expedition. “It’s completely open to the elements. I only ever see one room with a plant, a recliner, a table, and two chairs for visitors. I can’t fathom its implication.”

The Drain

Professor Vladimir Reed-Field wished he had never taken the job at Miskatonic University. He’d never had problems like this when he was teaching at the University of Hawaii. A volcanic eruption would be a welcome change over the sound coming from that damn kitchen sink.

The plumber from Blizzard Pipeworks could find nothing wrong with the drain. She’d scoped it, snaked it, and performed a full flush. She said that sometimes the plumbing in Arkham’s old houses just made odd noises.

The problem wasn’t the pipes themselves. It was the thing inside the pipes that kept whispering the professor’s name.

All Romance, Fantasy, and Sci-Fi subgenres are welcome.

 

Rules are simple:

3. Ask your readers to join Rene's Getaway Party Room. They will not want to miss this event! It will be so much fun for them to meet new authors, play games and win prizes.

4. Commit to sharing "A Spooky Good Time's" graphics on Social Media and in your Newsletters (including links to the group) leading up to the event. This is a team effort, so please share!

5. Mark your calendars. Saturday, October 28th. Anytime on the 28th, make 1 post in the group. Introduce yourself, tell the readers a bit about your books, tell them what you are giving away, and ask them a question, have them play a game, ask them to follow/friend you, whatever you want to do--but their comment on the post is their entry into the giveaway! You can give away as many books as you'd like! You can also give away swag and gift cards.

6. On Sunday the 29th you will pick your winner(s). Be sure to friend them and tag your winner right under GIVEAWAY CLOSED, so I know that you have reached out and made arrangements with your winner(s).
