Carpe Diem Renga with Jane Reichhold: Placing the Flute

wind perfumed
from a woman's shoulder
desert night
beauty of the soul hidden
beneath harsh exterior

dancing on the beach
I jab a stick into the sky
to break up the blue
blue for those loved by the world
sky is never blue for me

days so complete
words become the calls of birds
the high tide wind
what would it be to feel joy
satisfied at the day's end

placing the flute
against her lips something
slips into place
stupid girl that I once was
believing I could be more

I'm not old
all night my eyes have held
the ancient stars
I was broken before birth
my heart has never been young

moon white water
lovers in the secret cove
Saturday night
I walk on by full knowing
there is nothing there for me

~Jane & Cie~

Notes:
It's possible that for once in my train wreck of an existence I managed to follow directions and didn't, say, create Troiku where Renga was called for. SMDH at my failure to brain when it comes to even the simplest things.
The Hokku (Haiku) of these Renga were created by Jane Reichhold (1937 - 2016). The Ageku (two-line stanza) were created by me.

NaPoWriMo 2019: Day 18: A Soul Dull and Filled with Pain

I Blinked and the World Was Gone Version 5
Copyright The Real Cie

A life lost and lonely from first cry
A soul not soothed by any lullaby
Days are hopeless, dull, and filled with pain
Till the moment when the unwanted ones are left alone to die

~Cie~

Notes:
The poem style is Rubai. This is a brief poetry form requiring the story to be told in four lines. I believe I have accomplished this.

Fetch: Dreamland Dictionary

A cup of dreams by dandingeroz

A teacup means I drink you in
A hammer means my heart you'll break
A seagull means you've flown away
To the land where breezes carry the stench of decay
A ballet slipper means
I'm dancing through lost dreams
Of childhood long gone
Of hope torn at the seams
Shark means I'm consumed by troubles
Wobbly table, my precarious ground
I'm cast out because no-one wants to bear witness
As the tears from my eyes stream down
A dentist in my dreams
Means I should shut my damn mouth
Before I say the wrong words
And everything goes south
A rowboat means I want to sail away
To where my lost seagull has flown
Take me with you to the Land of Dreams
I can't bear to be here on my own

The Visitor

The Visitor by Janet Mayled

The Visitor

The light appears to crest in waves
You dance in my dreams
Bringing with you the ghosts of a million years past
They blow away like smoke on a breeze
But you remain

Ethereal like morning mist
Glorious, gossamer shade
Yet more real than all the seemingly essential trappings
Which we greedy humans think we cannot do without
Your unearthly beauty holds fast

You strengthen and destroy my heart
Shatter everything I previously held to be true
The mournful ghosts of the past dance behind you
Reflections on a window
You wave your hand and they vanish

I wish with all my heart and soul
That I could hold you in my hand
That I could put the broken pieces of you back together
My darling dichotomy
Powerful, broken, beautiful you

You are everything that dreams are made of
Sweet ecstasy, beautiful nightmare
Builder and destroyer of worlds
Unicorn in the glass menagerie
I hold the pieces of you in my hands

My tears fall like rain on the ground
New year, new day, new loss
Rough winds destroy the darling buds of May
Like the petals of a flower torn apart in a hurricane
The ashes of the lost ones blow away

Love is the Ten of Swords

I love you.
Not just when it's tragically hip to do so.
Not just when your band is the "in thing."
Not just when you're young and unconventionally handsome.
Not just when things are going good.
Not because I'm a pretty girl (I'm not) who likes to prove she can get any man she sets her mind to.
Not only when it's a nice day or I'm hypomanic or at least the charnel smell isn't blowing down from the damn meat packing plant to the North of where I live.
Not even only when your beautiful, sharp mind is at its best and you're cooking up something new and wonderful.
I love you when it hurts like hell to do so.
I love you because you deserve to be loved.
I love you because you were, are, and always will be a cut above.
I love you because you're beautiful in the ways that really count.
I love you even though I know how it makes me look.
I love you even though it makes my heart feel like it's being ripped out by dull razor blades and sometimes stabbed through by burning swords.
It never ends--I always will love you.

Even when he started showing signs of how frail and sick he was becoming, he still didn’t want to be a burden to anyone, and so he kept trying to be strong and do what he believed was right.
And so, this is why I can’t stop talking about him.
That and the fact that he saved my life more than once when I was a miserable, lonely, scapegoated, mentally ill teenager just by making music that was for people like me, not for the “cool” kids, but for the rejects, for the lonely, the angry, the pissed off. For people who everyone else thought was worthless. Malcolm Young did not give a rare rat fuck about being cool. I loved that about him—love that about him.
Always in the present tense, because that is a feeling that will never die.

Trapped

Not my art. I wish! Afraid I don't know the source.

Trapped

I feel like I’m trapped

In one of those old movies where the earth does open

I thought we could find some place to anchor

But we are still adrift, floating

O tired song of what we thought

Repeating endlessly within our heads

Mocking the reality of what we now know is truth

Sometimes it takes too damn long to become dead

I used to think if I could go back in time

I’d beat my younger self just like a thug

But these days I’ve so much sympathy in me

I’d give that lost and hurting soul a hug

We cannot foresee what is to come

The moments of happiness are few and far between

The moments of tragedy weigh us down like stones

I would not wish on anyone the things I’ve felt and seen

People do not long for youth to be young and pretty

We long for youth so we don’t have to know

About all the losses we will face in life

The myriad of sorrows stoop our shoulders when we’re old

Love in the Time of Pain

Love in the Time of Pain

The love we feel
When things are going well
Comes easy enough

The test of our mettle
Is the love that we feel
When the road has gone rough

Love in the time of joy
Is a happy dance
Of a springtime song

Love in the time of pain
Is the sky crying tears
In a world gone wrong

Love in the time of joy
Carries you through the day
On angel wings

Love in the time of pain
Makes the soul want to run away
From what the new day brings

A sword through the heart
Reveals the true depth
Of the love within

What the Fuck Brain?

What the Fuck, Brain?

In a different kind of Move Like Jagger
I'm gonna stick my hand in my heart
Rip it out
And spill my blood all over the page

I've lost my fucking head
The reason will soon become clear
In everything that's said

I said I wanted to put you in my pocket and keep you safe
I started thinking that I wanted to hug you
Until your memory came back
So I could see the light turn on in your eyes once again

I started thinking that you always looked a little sad
I started thinking that I wished I could soothe your sorrow
Cuddle away your blues or some such squishy-headed foolishness

Then I started thinking
Shame on me for what I started thinking
Fucking Midnight Confession style thoughts
About a married man

I started thinking that I want to do bad things with you
Like that's gonna fucking accomplish anything
Like that's gonna bring you back
Like what the hell is wrong with me?

And then the fucking dam burst
I haven't been able to cry about this
Even though I've talked about it till I'm blue in the face

What the fuck
What the fuck
What the fuck
Is wrong with the Universe?

Everything dies
But you don't create something so beautiful
Just to utterly destroy it

For however wrong my thoughts are
(And I hate myself for them)
They're nowhere near close to as wrong
As what's been done to you

Everything is in vain
Life is pain
Hope is folly
Confession is good for the tabloids

Some things try their best to be strong
Although they're actually fragile
I want to put you in my pocket
And keep you safe forever

~Cie~
For Malcolm Young

For those who think that AC/DC is nothing but a party band, this deep cut from the underrated Powerage album shows another side. At the heart of it, they're a hard-driving blues-rock band. They are the best of things.

My Wish

My Wish

Things are going well for me
I'm happy in my career
I've found the love of my life
I like the place where I live

I miss my dad, my uncle, and my little grand-nephew, who was only with us for a short time
The rest of my family is doing okay for the most part
But some of them are struggling

I wish I could do more to help my loved ones whose lives aren't going as well
Who are mired in depression and dissatisfaction
Who have been faced with overwhelming change
I wish I had the means to take your pain away

I sometimes feel so helpless
But my sympathetic tears
Have no magic powers

I can offer you a shoulder to cry on
I don't have the monetary means to do more
Than buy you a sandwich now and then
I wish I did

I can give you advice, for what it's worth
But I can't take away your depression
I can't heal the illnesses that you can't afford to see the doctor for

These days, a dollar doesn't go very far
We're all struggling
I just wish you didn't have to struggle so hard

I wish it were easier to change jobs
So those of you who have come to hate yours
Could find a different line of work
I wish that education didn't cost so much
So you could train for something new

I wish I could wish on every star
And bring each of you what you needed most
I wish we could all speak to our loved ones in Heaven
And know that they're okay

I wish we could all mend fences
Heal wounds
Have second and third and fourth chances at happiness
Know that we're worthwhile
No matter where we live or what we drive

I wish I could give all of you happiness
For that is the most important thing of all

~Adam~
