November PAD Chapbook Challenge 2019: Day 25: A Snarky Senryu: Thanksgiving

time for Thanksgiving
happy holiday for some
not much for turkeys

~Cie~

Notes:
Today's November PAD Chapbook Challenge asked for a poem about a meal. If you're in the U.S., American Thanksgiving is coming up in two days, so I figured that was an appropriate meal to write a snarky Senryu about.

Carpe Diem #1783: Eggplant

when the time has come
for planting a new garden
can I grow eggplant?

~Cie~

Ghost Town Grover Sez:
"Why the heck do they call it an egg-plant? It's a plant, but it ain't an egg, and it don't grow eggs or lay eggs neither!"

Cactus Clem Sez:
"Ornery, maybe y'all oughta put out a nest so's yer eggplant will have a nice place to lay its eggs. Or do ya think maybe we oughta build it a coop like fer chickens?"

Carpe Diem Summer Love 2019: Day 4: Ice Cream

snow fall in belly
adding lusciousness to feast
vanilla ice cream

snow fall in belly
it had been too long a time
since I had ice cream

adding lusciousness to feast
after our woodworking class
we wished for a treat

vanilla ice cream
was not the flavor chosen
I chose chocolate

~Cie~

Notes:
Even as a child, I always chose chocolate ice cream. I can remember being three years old and my dad was pulling me in a wagon back from the ice cream shop. I had chocolate ice cream on my face, and I was ridiculously happy.
My son feels that butterscotch is a tremendously underrated ice cream and topping flavor. Much to his dismay, they have ceased carrying the butterscotch cone dip at Dairy Queen. However, we went to Baskin Robbins last night, and they had a new butterscotch flavor ice cream.

Hungry For More

Hungry For More
I know this is the proper portion
Of tasty, healthy food
Which should be enough
To satisfy my body’s need
But I’m hungry for more
I need sweetness
Not just icing
But the whole cake
A little lovely substance
But not too much propriety
I’m sick of obedience
To rules I didn’t choose
Meat is good and vegetables fine
But what about a little wine
I crave a morsel of decadence
My need lies sweet on the tip of my tongue
My mouth waters for what I truly crave
The unspoken
Forbidden
Excruciating desire
For something I can never taste

OctPoWriMo 2014: Day 3

Bittersweet

Sweets for the not so sweet
Need a treat
Been far too long since I indulged
I don't mean sweets to eat
Or fine meat
Some secrets are best not divulged

Not talking 'bout candy
I buy that
I know you're thinking I mean sex
Some may think that's dandy
It's old hat
When done it only serves to vex

It's not a sugar'd treat
It's not wine
Nor to indulge the fleshly need
It's nothing one can eat
It feels fine
I need my spirit to be freed

~Helena~

Helena's Note:
It's a difficult thing to feel free to truly express oneself, even among those calling themselves "creative spirits." When I first started blogging, I was ever so sure that I would find a vast community of free thinkers, especially among the bleeding hearts and artists. Overall, I've found quite the opposite to be true. Artistic types and so-called liberal thinkers are just as likely to pick apart and criticize those who don't fit the mold as the "normal" person.
Often my only port in the storm of navigating life while mentally ill has been the venues for expression provided by Team Netherworld. I would just like to take this moment to thank our founder, Cie Cheesemeister, for opening this space to freaks like me.

Wordless Wednesday: September 24, 2014

Ya know what I love about Wordless Wednesday?
I can just take one of the photos I used in a post or for a Photoshop, slap it on the page, and publish it. It's the ultimate in lazy blogging for someone who loves to be lazy any chance she gets. Unfortunately, I don't get to be lazy very often. Even when I have down time, I tend to feel like I always have to be doing, doing, doing.
I also don't tend to do a very good job with the Wordless part.
"But Cheese, this is a poetry blog, not a picture blog."
Meh. Pictures? They're just wordless poetry!

Carpe Diem Autumn Haiku: Apples

If only the apples on my tree were this intact

Most of the apples
On the tree beside my house
Bit by birds and worms

E is for Epulaeryu

I'll present mine first, then provide an explanation and a sample.

Dia-Beaten

I wish I could just grab food
Without having to
Worry whether it's okay
For me to eat it
Without it raising
Blood sugar
Damn!

~The Cheese~

The Epulaeryu poem is all about delicious food. It consists of seven lines with thirty-three (33) syllables. The first line has seven (7) syllables, the second line five (5), the third line seven (7), the fourth line five (5), the fifth line five (5), the sixth line three (3), and the seventh line has only one (1) syllable which ends with an exclamation mark. The form is 7/5/7/5/5/3/1. Each line has one thought which is about the main course. Therefore, this poetic form, the Epulaeryu, which has corresponding lines built around the main course and ending with an exclamation point, concludes with the ending line expressing the writer’s excitement and feelings about the poem. The poem may be rhymed or unrhymed. The Epulaeryu poem was developed by Joseph Spence, Sr. The name of the poetic form was selected as a result of experiencing the Mediterranean and Far East cultures, and enjoying many succulent and nourishing meals and food during those memorable travels.

Example #1:
Eggs of Easter

Eggs are in the pots steaming
Stove’s flame is gleaming
The smiles will be beaming
Great treat for the kids
Multicolored bids
Easter eggs
Yea!

The Divine Devil

The Divine Devil

Eggs that are deviled
I could consume by the dozen
Don’t need no toast or jam
Just eat ‘em and love ‘em

If you leave out a plate
Stacked with eggs that’re deviled
In fifteen minutes or less
The stack will be leveled

Love ‘em and leave ‘em?
Dude, not a chance
Chowing down on deviled eggs
Is better than romance

If you’re throwing a party
Best have a few eats
If you’ve got deviled eggs
You’ve got the best treats

Deviled eggs, you see
Are sophisticated and stylin’
But I don’t care about that
The taste leaves me smilin’

~Faye~
