The new Troiku

my thoughts at three a.m.

burrowing into my brain

me spooking myself

my thoughts at three a.m.

why are you always troubled

this hour unhallowed

burrowing into my brain

like worms in a long-dead corpse

spirits of the past

me spooking myself

my true talent in this life

no comfort to give

Choose one of your poems from the beginning of the month and revise it.

I guess you could say I revised it, but I think it's more of an expansion.

I took the first poem I wrote this month and turned it into a Troiku.

https://poetryofthenetherworld.blogspot.com/2023/10/spooky-me.html

A Troiku is a form created by Chèvrefeuille of Carpe Diem Haiku.

https://chevrefeuillescarpediem.blogspot.com/2012/11/carpe-diem-preview-new-creative-way-to.html

I added text art and effects to the base image using Pixlr. You're welcome to share the results, but please credit Cara Hartley/Ornery Owl if you do. A link back to this blog is also appreciated.

Vampirella and I agree that 3 AM thoughts aren't as bad when you have someone to discuss them with.

The character depicted isn't intended to be Vampirella, but she has a similar appearance.

Vampirella is an attractive, scantily clad relative of Uncle Creepy and Cousin Eerie. She's a benevolent alien vampire hailing from the planet Drakulon, and is one of the first friends this weird and lonely precocious reader of Poe and horror comic aficionado had in this life.

It's been a long time since I've had time to link up with D'Verse Poets open link.

In keeping with my quest to manage my anxiety (and, in doing so, lessen the severity of the symptoms from my vocal cord dysfunction) here's my comment participation method.

I use Random.org to select five blogs to visit and comment on. I appreciate any visits I get but please don't feel like you have to comment. I am always working on multiple projects at any given time and I don't have time to pay attention to how many comments a given post does or doesn't get. Thanks for understanding!

Climate Change Blues

Free Use Image from Pixabay

I
you pave paradise
and put up a parking lot
play it on repeat

you pave paradise
and build another strip mall
or subdivision

and put up a parking lot
so when the sun beats down hot
things get hotter yet

play it on repeat
thermometer rising more
waves erode the shore

II
you pave paradise
and build another strip mall
or subdivision

you pave paradise
cookie-cutter houses stand
where there was wetland

and build another strip mall
cause you never have enough
disposable goods

or subdivision
filled with overpriced houses
homeless in the street

III
and put up a parking lot
so when the sun beats down hot
everything sizzles

and put up a parking lot
heat wavers on the asphalt
ocean levels rise

so when the sun beats down hot
there is no place to escape
rising mercury

things get hotter yet
if we don't make some changes
it will be too late

IV
play it on repeat
thermometer rising more
waves erode the shore

play it on repeat
there are some who like to claim
nothing has gone wrong

thermometer rising more
they say its just a cycle
irresponsible

waves erode the shore
close in on coastal cities
we must be the change

Prompts Used
Hold onto your hats, People, and let me explain the multiple methods of my madness.

April PAD Challenge 2021
Day 7:
Take a song title, change a word in the title, and make this the title of your poem.
I chose "Cool Change" by Little River Band, altered it to Climate Change, and stuck the word "Blues" on the end because I'm a renegade like that.

D'Verse Poets
Write a circular poem.

The Double Troiku is a form created by Kristian of Carpe Diem Haiku Kai.
To write a Troiku, one first creates a Haiku, then writes three Haiku from the lines of the first Haiku.
A Double Troiku takes things one step further, writing three new Haiku from each of the new Haiku created from the original Troiku.
Anyway, the poem repeatedly "circles back" to the first Haiku.
There you have the form for my "circular" poem!

Mindlovemisery's Menagerie
Music Prompt
Write a piece based on Woodstock or another song by Joni Mitchell. I selected Big Yellow Taxi. Now, you never see the Big Yellow Taxi mentioned in the poem, but trust me, it's there, idling in the background as it waits for its passenger.

Cressida de Nova: Carpe Diem # 1841... A Special Challenge...Double ...:   mysterious landscapes rise and unfold before my eyes worlds of clouds Chevrefeuille ------------------------------------------- mysterious...

A fabulous Troiku.

Celebration Clouds: Double Troiku

Free use image by Gerhard G on Pixabay

I

mysterious landscapes
rise and unfold before my eyes
worlds of clouds

mysterious landscapes
in the dreams of my childhood
promise of wonder

rise and unfold before my eyes
in clouds on Christmas morning
when I still believed

worlds of clouds
promise happiness for all
to those who ascend

II
mysterious landscapes
in the dreams of my childhood
promise of wonder

mysterious landscapes
dreams of faraway places
clouds on Christmas day

in the dreams of my childhood
I believed in tomorrow
every dream a gift

promise of wonder
that only came at Christmas
a beautiful world

III
rise and unfold before my eyes
in clouds on Christmas morning
when I still believed

rise and unfold before my eyes
long-lost dreams of yesterday
with a childlike hope

in clouds on Christmas morning
I believed there were angels
watching from above

when I still believed
there was hope in the worst times
Father sang carols

IV
worlds of clouds
promise happiness for all
to those who ascend

worlds of clouds
billowing, ever-changing
they are no less real

promise happiness for all
clouds do not demand your faith
even at Christmas

to those who ascend
looking down upon the Earth
I wish you good cheer

~cie~

For my father, who now flies above the clouds.

Write an "exit" poem.
The poem does not specifically use the word "exit," but it is (finally) the last poem for the November PAD challenge, and there is a reference to winter celebrations occurring at the end of the year.

I don't know if I'm going to enter the PAD chapbook challenge. I never win those things. I'm thinking about just publishing the poems myself, nuts to the contest part of it.

The initial Haiku is © Chèvrefeuille and permission was granted by the poet for the use of this exercise. I am responsible for everything else.

This triple-threat Troiku was posted to these places:

Carpe Diem Weekend Meditation: The Cold Night

spring snow
purifies earth and heaven
the cold night

spring snow
covering flowers and trees
a threatening frost

covering flowers and trees
a spring freeze will destroy buds
a hard summer comes

the cold night
emerging from the dream world
the people awake

~cie~

notes
We were charged with creating a fusion-ku from the following two Haiku and a Troiku from the fusion-ku.

Carpe Diem Weekend Meditation: Troiku Hineri: At Dawn

Image by Johannes Plenio from Pixabay
These round hay bales are a common sight where I live

I
at dawn
I wash my feet with dew
the longest day

at dawn
the sun comes through the window
too bright to look at

I wash my feet with dew
perhaps I am still dreaming
I walk to the yard

the longest day
the too-warm sun of summer
I retreat indoors

II
at dawn
the sun comes through the window
too bright to look at

at dawn
much of the world awakens
though some hide away

the sun comes through the window
too bright to remain asleep
burning fiery orb

too bright to look at
I attempt to ignore it
I begin my day

III
I wash my feet with dew
perhaps I am still dreaming
I walk to the yard

I wash my feet with dew
before the sun burns it off
on grass blades still damp

perhaps I am still dreaming
I would be afraid to walk
unshod on this ground

I walk to the yard
trying to plan the future
what will I grow here?

IV
the longest day
the too-warm sun of summer
I retreat indoors

the longest day
I have many things to do
always stay busy

the too-warm sun of summer
makes me hide inside the house
sun scorching the earth

I retreat indoors
maybe when the evening falls
venture out again

Ghost town Grover and Cactus Clem have a poem they want to share too.

A cactus man like Cactus Clem
Thinks the heat just can't be beat
He don't mind when it gets toasty
He even walks around in bare feet

A ghost like Ghost Town Grover
Tends to prefer the shade
He likes to sit underneath the old tree
Just sippin' lemonade

Carpe Diem New Beginnings: Reincarnation Wave

shrouded memories
wash to the shore like a wave
lives unremembered

shrouded memories
creeping up from the dark past
preying on my mind

wash to the shore like a wave
I wish I could float away
forgetting this strife

lives unremembered
hiding in my troubled mind
preparing to spring

~cie~

notes
We were given two Haiku by Jane Reichhold (1937 - 2016) with which to create a "fusion-ku," and from there, to create a Troiku. Here are Jane's Haiku. My "sleigh" is a Senryu rather than a Haiku, but so it goes.

a huge wave
thundering across the beach
my birthday

sky-clad
the new-born comes wrapped

Carpe Diem Weekend Meditation #111 Troiku ... New Beginnings ... Lotus starts to bloom

in deep prayer
eyes closed in devotion -
Lotus starts to bloom

in deep prayer
I can't trust what my mind says
it plays tricks on me

eyes closed in devotion -
trying to change my focus
away from my pain

lotus starts to bloom
is the lotus in my mind
real or illusion?

The sleigh of the Troiku was created By Chèvrefeuille. The horses were gingerly handled by someone.

Carpe Diem #1789: Winter Trees

Image by David Mark from Pixabay

axe unfolding wood
the lumberjack's hand brings down
winter trees on snow

axe unfolding wood
scent of oils rising from bark
mighty giants fallen

the lumberjack's hand brings down
sturdy wood to build new homes
and for furniture

winter trees on snow
they can serve the people well
if culled thoughtfully

~Cie~

Sustainable forestry practices allow us to live in harmony with nature.

Notes:
This Troiku was created from a fusion Haiku inspired by a pair of Haiku by Yosa Buson (1716 - 1784).

Carpe Diem #1784: Rain at the Crossroads

soaking wet signpost
I try to read while trudging
through wet pampas grass

soaking wet signpost
water running in my eyes
watercolor rain

I try to read while trudging
always try to do too much
must learn to focus

through wet pampas grass
the signpost just up ahead
slips further away

Santoka Taneda & Cie

Notes:
The assignment today was to take two Haiku by Santoka Taneda (3 December 1882 – 11 October 1940) and turn them into a single Haiku, then turn that Haiku into a Troiku.

Here are the two original Haiku:

walking on through them

Carpe Diem #1777: A Fusion of Seasons

cricket silence
between scraping sounds
autumn begins

© Jane Reichhold

it touches the line
of my fishing pole -
this summer moon

© Chiyo-Ni

summer fishing done
as the crickets fall silent
autumn now begins

summer fishing done
we must prepare for winter
weather is too warm

as the crickets fall silent
will they return in the spring
species fall extinct

autumn now begins
the season that I love best
should not be so warm

~Cie~

Notes:
We were asked to create a fusion Haiku from the first two poems and then create a Troiku from the fusion Haiku. The Three Horses of the Apocalypse led my sleigh to weather that is unseasonably hot and dry. It should not be close to 80 degrees in Colorado in November. So I got all environmentally conscious on everyone and turned my Troiku to a Senryu, because that's the kind of thing I do.

OctPoWriMo 2019: Day 29 + Carpe Diem #1771 Lightness of Being the Firefly

longing for the grass
at the bottom of the pool
those fireflies.

longing for the grass
with lust almost immoral
they light up the night

at the bottom of the pool
they float free now of burden
solitude sublime

those fireflies
craving no deeper meaning
than being alive

Basho & Cie

Notes:
The "sleigh" of this Troiku was created by Matsuo Basho (1644 - 1694). The team of firefly horses was guided by me.
I just noticed this Emoji icon in the bottom right corner of my post. It looks all pissed off and frazzled. I laugh, as this is the first poem in several days that has been at peace with things. It's about fireflies, just doing firefly stuff, longing for grass, and lighting up the night. I didn't notice the Emoji thing yesterday or the day before. Maybe it exploded upon being exposed to the radioactive rage of my post.
Now it's a starched white shirt with a red tie. Apparently, the fireflies have gone into business and are dressing the part.

Carpe Diem Weekend Meditation #99: Crossroads of Summer

I
buttercups
peeping through fog
opening to the sun

buttercups
I missed my turn once again
may I back it up?

peeping through the fog
on the way to take boxes
last stop on the way

opening to the sun
my heart opens very slowly
fearing further pain

II
sunshine lights
on hibiscus leaves before their
own dark

sunshine lights
but sometimes the sunshine lies
as much as shadow

on hibiscus leaves before their
time comes to fade for autumn
fall's first frost comes soon

own dark
indeed, I once thought I could
instead, dark owned me

~Jane & Cie~

Notes:
The "sleighs" of this team of Troku were created by Jane Reichhold (1937 - 2016). The wild horses pulling the "sleighs" were wrangled by me, or, more likely, I was wrangled by them.

The second stanza of the first Troiku references a favorite song: Aqualung by Morcheeba. This song has deep personal significance, and we'll just leave it at that.

Carpe Diem Field of Flowers: Peony

dainty peony
a garden's painted lady
makes a home for ants

dainty peony
ants climbing in the petals
seeking space to rest

a garden's painted lady
something from another time
and at once timeless

makes a home for ants
petals form a cozy bed
hidden from the sun

Carpe Diem Weekend Meditation #97: Depth of a Flower

I

windy weather
calling the flowers by name
each nods

windy weather
inspiring too much thinking
melancholy thoughts

calling the flowers by name
the flowers in a graveyard
have names of the lost

each nods
no fight when the time has come
blowing away home

II

depth of a flower
flying away with the bee
some mystery

depth of a flower
what hides deep inside beauty
mystery within

flying away with the bee
nectar feeds tomorrow's child
hope for the future

some mystery
can spark curiosity
or can drive one mad

Jane & Cie

Notes:
The "sleighs" of these two Troiku were created by Jane Reichhold (1937 - 2016). The Six Horses of the Apocalypse escaped from my unstable stables.
