Fear of Ultimate Darkness

The bandage over David Bowie's eyes in the videos made shortly before his death symbolizes the fact that he does not know what comes next.

the question unasked
the answer, I admit, yes
I fear what comes next
who I am all comes apart
not that I was together

notes if you need 'em
I'm a devout agnostic. I've seen some shit that leads me to believe that the personality continues to exist following the death of the body, but I can't say it with 100% certainty. It's not the kind of experiment you can recreate in a lab.
I'm not religious. Religion is a human construct, and much of the time I feel that it is harmful. I believe that there are probably higher powers. I am not about to worship any of them that are so egotistical as to demand worship.

It would be easier if I could faithfully believe in a higher power that would take me to heaven when my soul passed from my body, but I simply cannot.

I suppose the statement that I fear death is incorrect. I don't actually fear death. What I fear is oblivion. That is the uncensored truth.

Another truth is the fact that I adore David Bowie. Not in a romantic sense. I respect him too much for that sort of nonsense. I love him as an artist and a wonderful human being who changed the world for the better. I think he was an angel, perhaps literally.

Celebration Clouds: Double Troiku

Free use image by Gerhard G on Pixabay

I

mysterious landscapes
rise and unfold before my eyes
worlds of clouds

mysterious landscapes
in the dreams of my childhood
promise of wonder

rise and unfold before my eyes
in clouds on Christmas morning
when I still believed

worlds of clouds
promise happiness for all
to those who ascend

II
mysterious landscapes
in the dreams of my childhood
promise of wonder

mysterious landscapes
dreams of faraway places
clouds on Christmas day

in the dreams of my childhood
I believed in tomorrow
every dream a gift

promise of wonder
that only came at Christmas
a beautiful world

III
rise and unfold before my eyes
in clouds on Christmas morning
when I still believed

rise and unfold before my eyes
long-lost dreams of yesterday
with a childlike hope

in clouds on Christmas morning
I believed there were angels
watching from above

when I still believed
there was hope in the worst times
Father sang carols

IV
worlds of clouds
promise happiness for all
to those who ascend

worlds of clouds
billowing, ever-changing
they are no less real

promise happiness for all
clouds do not demand your faith
even at Christmas

to those who ascend
looking down upon the Earth
I wish you good cheer

For my father, who now flies above the clouds.

Write an "exit" poem.
The poem does not specifically use the word "exit," but it is (finally) the last poem for the November PAD challenge, and there is a reference to winter celebrations occurring at the end of the year.

I don't know if I'm going to enter the PAD chapbook challenge. I never win those things. I'm thinking about just publishing the poems myself, nuts to the contest part of it.

The initial Haiku is © Chèvrefeuille and permission was granted by the poet for the use of this exercise. I am responsible for everything else.

Wanting Something, Expecting Nothing

Free use image by 5598375 on Pixabay

when I was younger
and craving celebration
inside I was lost

I keep to myself
embracing my emptiness
nothing fills the hole

~cie~

Write a "historical" poem.
I reflected on my past history of partying hardy to try and fill the hole in my soul.

Use a given letter multiple times in your piece.
I'm not sure which letter was used the most, but E is a likely candidate.
Sadly, I ended up proving that I am fatally stupid and have lousy reading comprehension skills. I wasn't trying to flout the directions, I just didn't interpret them properly because my brain is a flaming heap of garbage.
I like my Senryu, though.

Spooky Planets

cosmic thoughts
My last few posts have been very verbose, so today I decided to KISS myself. For those who weren't reading self-help and recovery books in the 1970s and 1980s, KISS stands for Keep It Simple, Stupid. A simple concept on the surface, but when you're a complex simpleton like me, it's a hard one to grasp and maintain. I am infamous for taking on too much and relentlessly driving myself until nothing is any fun at all and I crash.

Anyway, today's Haiku is about rogue planets.

I find it both cool and terrifying that there are planets unattached to a solar system just floating around the galaxy. I believe that sometimes they may become attached to solar systems that they wander into, but don't quote me on that.

And now, here are the prompts that prompted me to pen this poem.

The Colors of a Life (Choka)

Free use image from Valiphotos on Pixabay

the leaves are changing
as they do every autumn
to eternity

find inspiration
in the place where I now live
not intuitive

I find surprises
things and events undesired
disappointment comes

people say it's smart
forever follow your gut
I reach for candy

colors of the day
weave into the knot of tears
wrap around my heart

The title and last stanza of the poem are a nod to the song "Colors of the Day" by Judy Collins.
