The Colors of my Heart

Every day I think of you

I remember what good friends you were to me

If you were the color of your spirit set free

I’m wondering what you would be

Lafayette, would this be you?

Did you become something like this when you rose away?

I thought that there would be more time to say

How much I love you every day

 Trinity, my colorful girl

With your beautiful, expressive eyes

Would I recognize your new disguise?

If only I could be that wise

I walk through the darkness of my dreams

With eyes closed fast, not wanting to see

The hopelessness surrounding me

Knowing what I wish can never be

Narcissus

know the notes
If all you wanted was that snip of a Senryu, you're done here.

However, I have a horrible, awful idea, and I am about to enact it.

I am combining today's poetry post with the monthly IWSG post.

Ready or not, here it is.

OPTIONAL QUESTION: When you think of the term working writer, what does that look like to you? What do you think it is supposed to look like? Do you see yourself as a working writer or aspiring or hobbyist, and if latter two, what does that look like?

You asked, I deliver.

I have never before thought of the term "working writer," and, after today, I will probably not think of it again.

I am a writer who works on my writing and hopes that one day people will like it enough to pay for it.

I have no idea what it's supposed to look like.

If people call me a hobbyist, they will wind up decomposing in my locker.

You're welcome to call me a hack. I can't force anyone to have good taste. But a hobbyist I'm not, at least when it comes to things of a literary nature.

I'm a hobbyist with my loom knitting. I'm sporadic and not very good at it.

I'm a hobbyist baker. Results may vary. I do get upset when they don't come out nice. However, I am not a professional.

I work on literary things from sunup to sundown.

I guess that makes me a working writer, even if I am a horrible hack.

Yeah--that's about it.

I worked to write this poetry, and it will be published by me in a volume, probably sometime before the end of the year so you can buy it for yourself as a Xmahanukwanzyule present.

If you want more poetry of questionable literary value, Imma hook you up right here.

This post was conceived and birthed using these prompts:

By the way, I don't think that narcissus, AKA daffodils, are arrogant, stuck-up flowers. My poem uses an alternate interpretation of the prompt.

Dedication
This post is dedicated to Eddie Van Halen (January 26, 1955 – October 6, 2020) and not because I think he was a narcissist. I'm rather sure he wasn't. Eddie was a hard-working and innovative musician, and although I even play the kazoo badly, he was one of my life's influences because of his creativity and determination. So, the fact that you are reading this today can partly be blamed on Eddie.

Heart Break

you know its the notes
I am entire buckets of trash when it comes to making shape poems. I can make three kinds of shape poems: Triangles, diamonds, and funnels. So, from now on, when someone says "shape poem," I'm doing text art. I may also be entire buckets of trash when it comes to text art, but I don't think my text art rates quite as many trash buckets as my attempts at shape poems.

It's probably obvious, but the "space oddity" line is a homage to David Bowie.

If you want buckets more poetry, check this out.

Requiem for a Panther

29 November 1976 - 28 August 2020

Let us celebrate
A giving and regal soul
A king now at rest

~cie~

notes
I'll keep this simple. I was shocked and saddened to learn about the death of Chadwick Boseman from colon cancer. He was a truly decent and kind person. While fighting cancer himself, he took the time to visit young cancer patients and inspire them not to give up.

The world lost a truly noble spirit with Chadwick's passing, and it is appropriate to grieve this loss. However, it is also appropriate to celebrate the positive effect he had on all whose lives he touched. He was a positive role model for all the world to look up to.

Sijo: Total Heartbreak

Haiga copyright Cara Hartley 2017

Knowing that I will never see my feline friends again
I feel a total heartbreak that some cannot understand
If they could only know the home I have found here without them

Heeding Haiku With Carpe Diem: Senryu: Crystal Pond

death falls to darkness
or does the soul perhaps leap
to a crystal pond

~Cie~

Notes:
Today's Carpe Diem prompt involved revising this well-known Haiku by Matsuo Basho (1644 - 1694).

old pond
a frog jumps into
the sound of water

Today's Mindlovemisery's Menagerie prompt was crystals. We were asked to follow traditional Haiku rules, but, sorry, no can do when such a stellar Senryu using both prompts has hijacked my synapses!

I dreamed that my wonderful cat Trinity, whom I had to have put to sleep three years ago on November 9 due to brain and lung cancer, was here with me. November 9, 2016, was a garbage day in history. I lost my great friend on that day, and Lord Dampnut was elected "president." It was a terrible time to be alive.

She was such a special cat. I miss her big, chonky body, her big, chonky personality, and her big, loud purr.

OctPoWriMo 2019: Day 23: Lost Friends

Photoshop manipulation by The Real Cie
Both of these friends gone too soon

Looking for a home for you
Adopted you myself
Friends from the start
Although you were afraid at first
You were always a big kitten
Eyes of golden-green
Time went by too quickly
Took you from me too soon
Every day I grieve for you

Tiny princess abandoned by her humans
Received with love into our home
In time she became the queen of the castle
Never let me feel alone
I loved you, my best girlfriend
Time robbed me of you too soon
You are forever in my heart

Your broken-hearted human

Note:
Part of me really hates the pet prompts.
They are the one thing guaranteed to leave me crying--every fucking time--no exception.

NaPoWriMo 2019 Day 13 + Poems in April 2019 Day 13 & 6: Night of the Lepus

Stargazing Rabbit

So, you think a rabbit can't be scary?
Well, Smartypants
Why don't you just try
To go outside
On the Night of the Lepus?
This ain't no Tale of Peter Rabbit, dagnabbit!
I assure you that The Bunnies Are Not In Their Beds
This is The Story of a Fierce Bad Rabbit
Rabbits and Raindrops?
Try Bunnies and Bloodshed!
Shiver and tremble
Beware and dread
The Night of the Lepus
Is upon us!

~Cie~

Dedicated to DeForest Kelley
A lovely man who appeared in many great productions
And one wonderfully awful one

The book titles I used in the poem are listed below.
Full disclosure: The links allow the purchase of the books on Amazon, for which I get a small commission.

Notes:
I have only attended one fan convention. I went to Star Con back in 1984. I treasure the fact that I was able to hear DeForest Kelley speak. He was a very nice man with a somewhat wicked sense of humor and an unexpected tendency to use salty language. He didn't just talk about Star Trek, he also talked about the Westerns he starred in and laughed about having to reduce the salt in his language when working with Loretta Young, who was a very straight-laced lady.
Unfortunately, I wasn't able to get his autograph. The poor fellow was suffering from altitude sickness and had to go back to his hotel room. The nasty woman in front of me snidely said that he probably had too much to drink. I had nothing to say to her and thought that if I had to deal with people like her very often, I'd probably be inclined to drink too.
In any case, I'm glad I got to spend time listening to the musings of a person whom I like very well, and I'm glad I got to see the terrible B movie that he was in. I'm pretty sure that it wasn't one of his prouder moments. The Night of the Lepus is not a great classic, but it is one of those movies that's so bad it's good.

Just in case you can't resist having a copy for yourself.

The Cheesemeister's Photoshop Phucquery: A Space Oddity Makes An Embryonic Journey

I call this one "A Space Oddity Makes An Embryonic Journey."
You can call it "Cie Was Fucking Around In Photoshop And Really Has No Idea What The Fuck She's Doing," and that would be quite accurate.
It got to the "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" stage, and then I named it and added it to my Fart Gallery, which is my folder for my art practice. Because that is how I roll.
So, this is for David Bowie, because he was and is wonderful. He gave me the gift of being his wonderfully unusual and unique self, which taught me that being different is a good thing. It isn't an easy thing, but the best thing to be is yourself.
It hasn't been easy being different in a world that demands conformity.
I'd rather be in good company with good-hearted oddballs like David than in with a hard-hearted in crowd who will only break bread with those they deem acceptable in a very superficial way.
