people in the world
hardly notice these blossoms
chestnuts by the eaves
people in the world
hardly notice anything
not about themselves
hardly notice these blossoms
on plants becoming extinct
forests slashed and burned
chestnuts by the eaves
do you taste the poison sky
as acid rain falls

Notes:
The "sleigh" part of this Troiku was created by Matsuo Basho (1644 - 1694.) The three horses of the Apocalypse were created by me. (Surprise!)
Climate change: it's what's for dinner at the end of everything.

Didn't realize chestnut trees were becoming extrinct. We have tons of them growing in the woods around here.
ReplyDeleteIt's metaphorical. Everything is rather in danger of being screwed, given the current lack of caring for the planet that is going on.
DeleteIn the end, everything but cockroaches and Donald Trump's hair will be extinct.
...we will "not notice" right up to the very end. Then we will say "where did this come from?"
ReplyDeleteExactly!
DeleteNicely blended, Cie. By the e es means catching rain water run ing off. Literally we have an orange tree fi ished blooming and with oranges set on. Last year we harvested only three oranges, this year alot of tiny ones have set on.
ReplyDelete..
Orange trees are lovely. The climate I live in is too cold to grow them, but when my son and I move, we may try growing miniature ones indoors.

We were on a similar wavelength in the first stanza! Then I kind of focused on what the trees offer us and you've focused on the terrible things humans do to trees. Your final lines are devastating.
ReplyDeleteThanks. I don't actually set out to be devastating, but it tends to happen that way!
DeleteI like the way the mood progressed and deepened as the pieces went along and observation gave way to this simmering disgust with our species. We humans really have fucked things up pretty massively, haven't we?
ReplyDeleteYes indeed.
DeleteSome of us fuck things up on a personal level. I've a particular genius for that.
Others fuck things up for everybody and don't care a whit.
Frighteningly, the second kind are what's in power.
Our ignorance and lack of foresight would be our doom. This is a pretty solid form to convey the message. Very well penned!
