alone on the beach
only the cries of seagulls -
breathing silence
alone on the beach
wondering what lies ahead
another sunrise
only the cries of seagulls
if I could understand them
what would they tell me?
breathing silence
trying to calm this feeling
that all is not well

Notes:
The "sleigh" of this Troiku was created by Chèvrefeuille. The Three Horses of the Apocalypse are my responsibility.
This poem is part of my Seacliffe Series, in reference to my WIP, The Legend of Seacliffe House. These poems focus on the thoughts of my protagonist, Randal Messana, as he finds himself in a strange new situation after rescuing his mother from the brutal Diamantina Lamb and fleeing the cursed Lambswood Manor. The story is primarily a homage to Edgar Allan Poe and it may or may not ever be published. Either way, I hope some of you enjoy the poetry inspired by the tale!
Each of these feel like a deep breath to try to steady oneself. It reminds me a little of a mental exercise I've heard about where someone starts taking extra careful notice of their surroundings to ground their emotions. You've conveyed Randall's sense of unease really well.
ReplyDeleteI wake up with that feeling. The birdsong helps me ground with not beach around.
ReplyDeleteA wonderful series of interlinked poems, set to the seaside mood.
ReplyDeletehaikulicious!
ReplyDeleteI like the way the lines repeat so interestingly throughout this poem. It seems fitting it is called a sleigh. Loved it.
ReplyDeleteWhenever someone posts more than one piem I arbitrarily choose one to read. I am glad I picked this one. A lovely "troiku"
ReplyDeleteThere is a nice progression to your troiku.
ReplyDeleteLove all of them, and they seem like a perfect expansion to the original haiku.
ReplyDeleteBeautifully done!
ReplyDeleteThis is gorgeously rendered!💖
