Our challenge today was to create a "Troiku". This is my first time working with this form, and I found it an enjoyable challenge. I wasn't quite sure what to do with my 7-syllable line in the "sleigh" part of my Troiku, so I have two seven-syllable lines in one of my stanzas. I hope that this is acceptable with this non-traditional form of Haiku.
Although the troiku is quite tricky, it is a very enjoyable form to work with, and the 7-syllable line worried me too, when I wrote my first one. It’s something we just work around. I usually make that part of the ‘sleigh’ a 7-5-5, but two seven-syllable lines is fine. I enjoyed the message and the progression in your troika very much.
ReplyDeleteYou did an awesome job with this challenge. For sure because it was the first time you created a Troiku. I can understand the "trouble" you had with that 7-syllables line to start your second stanza with. In this new form I challenge the poets to let go the classical 5-7-5 way of haiku. It's more a kind of "free-styling" like Santoka Taneda did. Even that world famous classical haiku poet Basho didn't always followed the 5-7-5 form, so no worries ... this Troiku is excellent.
