November PAD Challenge 2021: A Special Dream (Choka)

Image by mostafa meraji from Pixabay

sometimes I dare dream
that someday we will accept
people as they are
fat or thin, black, white, or brown
short, medium, tall
with love and respect for all
only acceptance
will allow healing to start
put an end to shame
stopping the bitter harvest
self-loathing and tears
that are the direct result
of teaching people
to be ashamed of themselves
halt the bitter harvest now

Tell Me

Free use image by ijmaki on Pixabay

tell me just what you think I have to do
to be worthy of being treated well
to receive at least common decency
rather than disdainful, insulting slurs

tell me how perfect you think I must be
before I am immune to hateful words
what I would have to become isn't real
what gives you the right to spew such venom?

tell me where you learned to hate so deep
was it from society or parents?
you think you're cool whenever you're cruel
cut out your own heart with each hateful word

you
say it's
just a word

but
it's a
word that destroys

you
don't need
to say it

what
do you
gain from it

keep
your hateful
thoughts to yourself

just
maybe the
problem is you

Exposing the Lies

Exposing the Lies

He was always there to mock me, to remind me that no man could ever think a woman like me was pretty. He was always there to convince me to go on another diet that wouldn’t work, all in the name of catching a man like him; a perfect specimen, ice cold and sadistic, but beautiful. His face was tantalizing but his assertions were foul.
He delighted in gutting me whenever I started feeling better about myself. One day, to his surprise, self-respect surged through my battered soul.

I snatched the mask from his face.
“You! It was you all along!”
It was then that I saw his true ugliness, and learned another truth as well.
Having an external appearance that most people find pleasing does not make a person beautiful. Some very ugly people have pretty outsides, and some people who look quite plain are actually beautiful within.
Anyone who gleans pleasure from making another person feel badly about themselves is not a person to look up to. Anyone who ridicules another for their size, their age, or the color of their skin is the epitome of ugliness.
At no time again
Will I allow shallowness
To define my worth

Tempest's Thoughts:

The writers for Team Netherworld tend to be drawn to people and characters who aren't conventionally attractive. They either do not align with societal standards of beauty, or they have other traits which make them "unattractive" under conventional scrutiny, i.e. being mentally ill or not heterosexual.

I want to share pictures of a few of the people we've featured on this blog and the reasons why they would not be considered attractive by conventional standards of beauty.

Amy Winehouse

Tattoos
Brash clothing choices
Not conventionally delicate/feminine

Ville Valo

Tattoos
Sometimes wears makeup
Sinewy physique

Copyright: vschlichting / 123RF Stock Photo

Middle-aged
Heavy build
Modest attire

Malcolm Young

Middle-aged
Short (5' 4")
Extremely slender physique (~110 pounds)

Freddie Mercury

Non-Caucasian (Parsi)
Flamboyant
Bisexual

Here's a twofer!

Stan Laurel:
Middle-aged
Extremely slender
Prominent nose

Oliver Hardy:
Heavy build
Middle-aged
Plump face

If any of these people showed up for a photo shoot at a fashion magazine, they'd be sent away with derisive commentary. They would likely be mocked by gossip rags for lacking a certain type of highly improbable beauty.
In fact, I find all of them aesthetically pleasing. I like imperfect people. I would rather look at people like these all day long than any number of so-called perfect people.
The truth is, the perfect people really aren't that perfect either.

I've always appreciated Britney Spears' willingness to have people see the unretouched photos from her Candies shoes ad. She wanted girls to see what her body really looks like without her torso and legs being elongated and slenderized. She has sturdy, muscular dancers' legs. There is nothing whatsoever wrong with her real build.
Britney, the real you is beautiful!

And all of you are beautiful too.

Love,
Tempest

No Poetry Style Begins With X

Since there is no poetry style that starts with X, I thought I'd share a poem about my seXuality.
That is to say, biseXuality.
And all the eXtremely unseXy assumptions that are made about people like me.
Here is a good basic post about what bisexuality is.

UnseXy Assumptions

When people find out that I
Identify as bi
Sometimes they assume this means
I'm horny all the time
That I'll lay it on the line
With anyone who makes a pass
That all takers will get some ass
All they have to do is ask

Or maybe the assumption is made that I
Am telling a lie
Because there's no such thing as bi
There's only a pathetic chick
Who doesn't want to admit
She's really a dyke

All the guys think they can screw the lez away
Certain lesbians think I'm a traitor to anyone gay
Some people think I have it easier
Because I could go either way
But it's not that easy anyway

I don't always act on attraction
Don't give in to every distraction
In fact I'm not easy
I'm really quite shy
I never did find the right girl or guy

Don't assume things about me
Because of my bisexuality
And I won't assume things about you

Dangerous Folly

There are those who would like
To keep others locked away
Or worse
Because the color of their skin
Does not match that
Of the fool who thinks they know better
Than the creator
The way another person should appear

There are fools who would dictate
That anyone who does not think the way they do
Who does not believe the way they do
Who does not love the way they do
Is not entitled to certain rights
Perhaps including the right to life

Some fools think that a woman
Who refuses to be demure and obedient
Is a threat
That she should be ostracized
Or worse
That she should be corrected
Threatened, beaten, or raped into silence

Sometimes I wonder
If there is any place in the world
Which the fools have not corrupted
With their poisonous prejudices
