OctPoWriMo 2017: Day 4: Between the Clouds and the Water

Image copyright Amy McGrath

Between the Clouds and the Water

Between the clouds and the water
Where poetry hides
Is no fantasy location
Nor a good place for a vacation

It is my world within the world of dreams
A world much more real than it seems
To those unenlightened to the ways
Of those who lead another life behind closed eyes

The sirens swim the Dreamland seas
Searching for vulnerable souls like me
They try to tempt me with their charms, but I resist
For I know I would be far more a slave than a lover

Beneath the clouds and the water
Where poetry hides
I hear the siren's song calling to me
Promising that I could be set free

The freedom they offer is a lie
Those who fall for their lie
Will lie eternally full fathom five
Gazing over the vast ocean floor

With the pearls that have taken
The place of their eyes

Composed by Daniel Clifford

Notes:
This poem is written in the voice of Daniel Clifford, son of Gerry Clifford. Gerry is the male protagonist in Team Netherworld's WIP novel, Fetch.
Daniel is the target of the sirens which live in the Cerenarian Sea of Earth's Dreamlands.
Earth's Dreamlands and the Cerenarian Sea are the creations of H.P. Lovecraft.

Note:
In a case of mistaken identity, a benevolent Roman deity is often confused with a major adversary in Christian mythology.
The original Lucifer is a pretty mellow guy. You can read about him here

OctPoWriMo 2015: Day 10: Blood Lust

Damon and Stefan Salvatore

I'm warning you up front that this is Misty going fangirl.
If you find that puerile or beneath you somehow, turn back now

Blood Lust

Blood rushes through my veins
In a way previously unknown
I feel uninhibited

Screen capture

A dangerous lust for blood
Causes my untamed heart to hammer in my chest
As I dance into the fire

Image from fanpop

I smell the living warmth on which I yearn to feed
I do not seek to justify what I have become
I only seek to quell my insatiable need

Screen capture

I am vampire
I am intensity personified
I am life within death

~Misty~

Notes:
I was hooked on the Vampire Diaries from the start. I love the dynamics between the characters, particularly between the vampire brothers Damon and Stefan Salvatore.
Damon and Stefan are actually very civilized vampires. They do a commendable job of controlling the need to feed. Nonetheless that blood lust is always just beneath the surface of their genteel presentation.
In any case, it wouldn't be Halloween Month, AKA October, without a vampire or two!

NaPoWriMo 2015: Day 25: Tom Thumb Gets Sauced Again

Tom Thumb is reveling in the spring air and swimming in the sauce

Tom Thumb Gets Sauced Again

Spammy Pipers tweeter Tom Thumb
Decided to sample some rum
He tasted and tasted
Till he got himself basted

The Prompt:
And now for our prompt (optional, as always)! It’s the weekend, so I’d thought we might go with something short and just a bit (or a lot) silly – the Clerihew. These are rhymed, humorous quatrains involving a specific person’s name. You can write about celebrities, famous people from history, even your mom (hopefully she’s got a good name for rhyming with).
