The Elements of Heartbreak
When it rains
She feels as if the water
Is trying to douse the flickering ember
Which ignited her heart
In a spark
The fire is gone from his heart
But not from hers
She tries to find balance
In earthy things
Since he left her stranded
Alone in the frozen wastes
Of her dreams for their love
The sun rises
But does not warm her
A cool breeze blows
Calming like the sound of whispered hellos
Whipping up into a windstorm
Blowing out of control
Devastating everything she has known
In a cyclone of lies
And unexpected goodbyes
Dedicated to the ladies in my life who have known heartbreak.
Love,
Adam

Hard to comment on this poem ... I can only say, I love it ... it speaks to me and I've known many women to whom your dedication applies including myself at different moments in time. . . Bastet
ReplyDeleteThank you, on behalf of Adam. The poem speaks to me too.
DeleteA sad tale... but thats the way sometimes life leaves us..
ReplyDeleteThank you, on behalf of Adam. It's rare that anyone goes through life without heartache of some kind.
DeleteI hope you are good at mending hearts! A sad poem
ReplyDeleteHe's one of the best!
DeleteThanks for visiting. :-)
Sad, but so well expressed.
ReplyDeleteThank you, on behalf of Adam. :-)
DeleteIt wasn't so long ago, this could have been me. You write this with such deftness Adam, I suspect that a man's heart breaks very much like a woman's.
ReplyDeleteAdam's definitely known his share of heartbreak. He was in a 21 year relationship with the main source of it.
DeleteI've seen men who fall apart more than women do when a relationship ends.
Wow...just ...wow...so good...so true
ReplyDeleteThank you, on behalf of Adam. He's a good guy, true indeed!
DeleteBeautiful, in that sadness kind of way.
ReplyDeleteThank you, on behalf of Adam. He did a great job!
