Mount Etna Erupts

Volcanic Eruption
by
Opal Zushaquon

There is beauty in the destruction
Of a volcanic eruption
As the earth cracks asunder
The magma bleeds forth from any resulting fissures
The ground ruptures
The ash in the atmosphere may cause lightning to slice through the sky
A pyroclastic cloud exploding poison and ash through the atmosphere rains death upon everything caught below
Yet observe the beauty of the fire
The magnificence of the magma flow.

Nature can make even wrath and fury look beautiful. You paint a vivid red picture with your words. I think a couple of my hair-ends got singed when I was reading this :)

    Hot stuff!

  3. Good illustration of how beauty can be seen more clearly when one is not invested!
When I view pathology slides which are dyed and expose cancer cells, it is beautiful until you realize that this is someone's cancer or that was someone's island.

It shows us how much "me" is wrapped up in "beauty".

  8. I loved the images. Aren't volcanoes so awe inspiring ? The internals of the earth come spewing fire. I would love to see one in action.

  9. Your poem reminds me of all the incredibly lovely volcanic land on the big island of Hawaii. Very nice.

  11. Siometimes the most destructive and dangerous forces of nature have a powerful beauty all their own, in spite of everything. They say that some people become so mesmerized by the sight of a tornado, that they don't run. Maybe a volcano would be like that.
