November PAD Challenge 2021: Thirteen Moons on Turtle's Back

Image by Vladislav Nahorny on Unsplash

A Senryu for Three Line Tales

I remember her
thirteen moons times seventeen
music sustained her

Thoughts for Six Sentence Stories

Sometimes my heart breaks for the girl I used to be.

She loved music and the world did its damndest to kill her desire to play and snuff out the light in her soul.

Music is still a big part of her life although she has not played in more than 30 years and at this point has no desire to start playing again except maybe for something with a haunting sound like the recorder, and then only for herself.

I can see now that many of her seemingly bizarre actions were a means of placing armor around herself.

I know now how much she was hurting, and the things that were done to her weren't right.

The way I speak of her as if we are two separate people is a reflection of trauma that can never be erased.

notes
If I am committing a carnal infraction by combining these two prompts into one post, please feel free to delete my link. They worked together so I did what works.

a request
For those who are considering saying something like "I hope this isn't a true story," please don't. It is autobiographical. Everyone is not blessed with halcyon days in their youth. Some people have difficult lives. We should be allowed to express ourselves without having to feel guilty that our words might upset someone's belief in a perfectly just world. Such a thing does not exist.

November PAD Challenge 2021: Dear Me As I Used To Be

Image by Tandem X Visuals on Unsplash

“Whatever you do, you can’t do that.”
Dear Me as I Used to Be, just wanting to experience all the colors life offers
your vivacious grin faded like verdant summer
for so few ever viewed you through unprejudiced eyes
let this Samhain be your time of restoration, for you are as worthy as all souls
open your eyes and see, Little Sister, you aren't a mistake

~me to myself~

Helloween 2021 Day 8: Dark Night of the Soul in Neon (Senryu)

Free use image by Manny Moreno on Unsplash

long ago I dreamed
how I would shake up the world
I would be adored

dance floor at the club
shakes as boiling hormones rise
electronic beat

disappointment comes
everything is illusion
dark night of the soul

something blue rises
remembering devotion
to others' false gods

I reflect on life
with every foolish action
I wished to be loved

~cie~

the prompts

Prompt: Something Blue

From the post:
The cadralor is a poem of 5, unrelated, numbered stanzaic images, each of which can stand alone as a poem, is fewer than 10 lines, and ideally constrains all stanzas to the same number of lines. Imagery is crucial to cadralore: each stanza should be a whole, imagist poem, almost like a scene from a film, or a photograph. The fifth stanza acts as the crucible, alchemically pulling the unrelated stanzas together into a love poem. By “love poem,” we mean that your fifth stanza illuminates a gleaming thread that runs obliquely through the unrelated stanzas and answers the compelling question: “For what do you yearn?”

So...yeah. I did five Senryus, each of which are related to the photograph, to each other, and to the gleaming oblique thread running through them.

There are five interrelated three-line tales. If this is a major no-no, the blog owner is welcome to remove my link. That is, if WordPress even allows me to share it.

30 Days of Haiga: Summer Goes to Sleep

notes if you want 'em
A perfect poem to wrap up this year's 30 Days of Haiga, I think!

But does this mean there will be no more Haiga this year?

No way!

There may well be Haiga tomorrow!

What I'm not sure there will be this year is OctPoWriMo or the October Spooky Writing Prompts. There have been no stirrings on either the official OctPoWriMo blog or the Writers Handbook Tumblr to indicate that either will be transpiring.

I know that the person behind the Writers Handbook is active. They had a new post yesterday. However, it wasn't a Spooky Writing Prompts post.

I'm not sure about Morgan, who usually organizes OctPoWriMo. I hope she's okay. There hasn't been much activity on either of her blogs or on her Facebook or Twitter.

There is no way that I could manage being a decent host for an event like OctPoWriMo, but if Morgan isn't going to host the event this year, I might be able to come up with a quick list of prompts. As the late, great Tom Petty said, the waiting is the hardest part, but I guess we'll wait till tomorrow and see what happens.

Number 12 Looks Just Like You is the seventeenth episode from the fifth season of The Twilight Zone. The story is set in a dystopian future in which everyone, upon reaching adulthood, has their body surgically altered into one of a set of physically attractive models.
