Pooh Bear is My Hero: A Quadrille and Sort of a Sijo

Would you believe that I am trying to be more like Pooh?

That willy-nilly silly old bear is my real hero.

Because he’s good-natured even when he’s bothered.

Because he believes that things can get better even when they’re bad.

I love you, Pooh.

~cie~

Day 18: Write an Ekphrastic poem.
The picture of Pooh at the top of the poem is a true work of art.

Day 19: Write a poem with an animal in the title.
Pooh is a bear, and the word "bear" appears in the title.

Day 20: Write a love poem and/or an anti-love poem.
I heart Pooh Bear.

Write a Quadrille (44-word poem) using some form of the word "bother."

I did.

Day 18: Write a poem using the title of another poem or book chapter.

I didn't do this.

Day 19: Write a humorous rant.

A lot of things grind my gears, but I didn't write about them. I wrote about wanting to be more like Pooh, who has a healthier approach to being bothered than I do.

Day 20: Write a Sijo.

A Sijo is a Korean poetry form. Like the haiku, it has three lines, but the lines are much longer. Typically, they are 14-16 syllables, and optimally each line will consist of two parts – like two sentences, or a sentence of two clauses divided by a comma. In terms of overall structure, a sijo functions like an abbreviated sonnet, in that the first line sets up an inquiry or discussion, the second line continues the discussion, and the third line resolves it with a “twist” or surprise.

Well...
All of my lines except for the last one have between 14 and 16 syllables. The lines don't have two parts and there are five lines. So, this is sort of a Sijo but probably not really.

This is something that's neither here nor there, and I never thought the day would come when I'd hear myself say it, but I kind of like getting up early. I was always a "crack of noon" person in my earlier life, which is why I tended to work night shifts. Maybe no longer being a slave to a time clock has something to do with it.

Come as You Are Party/Catching Up With the Ornery Old Lady

Image by Pete Linforth from Pixabay

Hiya people! I had myself a little bit of a mental breakdown over the past week and went MIA, not, I'm sure, that anyone missed me. I came to one of those crossroads points in my life where I needed to make a critical decision. I'll just let this tentative introduction that I wrote for the book I'm currently working on tell you all about it.

A NEW TAKE ON AN OLD ISSUE

Here's how I will introduce my longer, more involved books from this day forward.

The chapters in my books can be read as standalone short stories or interpreted cohesively as a longer novelette/novella/novel. During the first half of my life, I had a lot of people tell me that my writing would never be good until I was able to make it conform to their ideals. Now that I am in the second half of my life, I refuse to apologize any longer for the way my mind and brain work or to force my writing to conform to rules decreed by others.

I have ADD (attention deficit disorder), type 2 bipolar disorder, and obsessive-compulsive disorder. These factors affect the way my brain processes information and the way I write. While I strive to make my writing concise in its own way and to continually improve my skills, I will never be able to write novel-length stories in a cohesive fashion. My mind simply cannot stop developing subplots.

It came to a point where I realized that I must either stop sharing my work or start sharing it without apologies for the fact that I neither think nor write like other people. I have chosen to share my work with an explanation but no apology.

I write the way I see the Universe as working: in a sometimes seemingly haphazard and disconnected fashion with an unseen thread connecting aspects in surprising ways. As the Tenth Doctor once said, “People assume that time is a strict progression of cause to effect, but actually, from a non-linear, non-subjective point of view, it is more like a big ball of wibbly wobbly timey wimey...stuff.”

My stories are a big ball of wibbly wobbly timey wimey stuff, and I will no longer apologize for that. I will simply issue the warning that you are now entering the Zone Where Normal Things Don't Happen Very Often, as was once revealed on Johnny Bravo.

If that sort of thing really is your bag, Baby, then welcome! Leave your expectations at the door, and come join Team Netherworld for an adventure like no other! You may at times be baffled, but I promise that you will never be bored.

Cie the Ornery Old Lady with a Mind Like a Maze
I would dare you to try and figure me out
But that wouldn't be fair
Because I've never managed to figure myself out!

NaPoWriMo 2015: Day 29: Ursula and Me

Ursula and Me

Ursula and me
We're big, bold, badass broads
Well, she's more badass, and I'm more odd
And I don't live under the sea

Ursula and I are ladies with more
We both carry powerful weapons
She has a trident, I a cane as it happens
But we both know the score

I used to be ashamed of my shape
I used to hide to avoid the bullying kind
Who seem to think it's perfectly fine
To do what amounts to psychological rape

Fat cunt, fat bitch, fat ugly cow
You don't like those words, think how I feel
For me, this is all too real
Why is this behavior allowed?

I was always trying to get thin
I hated my broken body
Deemed my post-accident self ugly and shoddy
For years I never could win

I thought that the haters were right
I brought the shame on myself
But then one day that attitude went on the shelf
Because I saw the light

No one has a right to treat another so bad
Fuck your body shaming hate
For thinness I'm not going to wait
You're the one that's pathetic and sad

They say I'll never get a man with a body like mine
I say I don't want any man
Who doesn't want me as I am
Guess what, I'm doing just fine

I discovered that it's pretty great
To be like Ursula and me
She doesn't have to do dialysis
I'm not trying to take over the sea
But we both laugh at your hate

Fat, thin, or in between
Everyone deserves to be treated the same
Nobody should have to hide in shame
Everyone deserves to be be seen

If you don't like what you're looking at
Why don't you look somewhere else
I deserve to go out in public
Just like anybody else

Rocking my big, bad, Ursula-shaped body
With my long graying hair whipping in the breeze
My trusty cane helps as I wind through the trees
I say that being Opal isn't too shoddy

That's my review of Ursula and me
And how I learned to put myself on top
If you're shaming others, stop
Everyone has the right to be free

~Opal~

Notes:
Twelve years ago, I was in a serious car accident which damaged my kidneys and left me with chronic pain and unable to walk without a cane. I was never a small person. I was one of those women who was constantly on a diet and hated what I saw in the mirror. I gained 150 pounds during the coming year.
My hatred and derision of myself continued for many years. Fortunately, The Real Cie and I discovered Health at Every Size and Size Acceptance. We have supported each other on our way to self-acceptance.
I no longer have a wait problem. I now do the things I want to do, as much as my body will allow me to. I am never going to be thin, and that's fine.
I can't say the bullying never gets to me, but these days I'm more likely to be able to stand up to it or ignore it rather than have it crush me completely.
To the ass clown at the Wal Mart: you're in the Wal Mart too as you stand there sanctimoniously spouting about fat bitches shopping at Wal Mart bringing America's standards to a new low. At least I'm not harassing random people who are minding their own business.
If you're one of those who thinks "People of Wal Mart" is oh so hilarious, you need to check yourself. That site is classist, hateful, and those behind its creation are beyond shameless. People in economically depressed areas and living on a fixed income often don't have any choice but to shop at Wal Mart.
I was going to write a review of concern trolling behavior, but it turned into the above. I like it better this way. I've always thought Ursula was an ultimate badass!

The prompt:
And now, for our prompt (optional, as always): today, I challenge you to write a poem in the form of a review. You can review either animate or inanimate things, real places or imaginary places. You can write in the style of an online review (think Yelp) or something more formal that you might find in a newspaper or magazine. (I imagine that bad reviews of past boyfriends/girlfriends might be an easy way to get into this prompt, though really, you can “review” anything in your poem, from summer reading lists for third graders to the idea of the fourth dimension).

Limerick-Off: Blow My Stack

Limerick-Off: Blow my Stack
by
Adam

Yosemite Sam was blowing his stack
He just couldn't keep it on track
Wherever he sailed, without fail
He was trailed by a whale
And his senses were beginning to crack

C is for Clerihew

Clerihew poetry is named for its creator, Edmund Clerihew Bentley (10 July 1875 – 30 March 1956)

Spectra will pop off a few for you utilizing some of our Netherworld folk, and herself.

Spectra Ghostseeker
Is a Tarot card peeper
A zany old lady
Who tries to make the future less hazy

Photoshop manipulation by Cie Cheesemeister.
Ed is on the left, his guy Dave is on the right.
Evil Ed is one of our borrowed characters. He was our favorite in Fright Night.
Dave, who is our creation, is the twin brother of Dwayne Hicks (IV), another borrowed character.
Actor Stephen Geoffreys, who played Evil Ed, is openly gay. So we thought that Ed should be too.

Evil Ed is a vamp
Who's a little bit camp
We think it's completely okay
That he's openly gay

Stephen Geoffreys played Evil in Fright Night
That he wasn't more famous just ain't right
He's got less hair today
Which is completely okay.

One more, and then I must run!

Lafayette is furry and black
He's a cat, as a matter of fact
Good luck finishing your clerical task
As on papers he likes to crash

Thanks, see you at the Letter D!

~Spectra~
