Poetry Prompts and Inspiration Day 22 April PAD Challenge and NaPoWriMo 2023

Good morning, afternoon, evening, or whatever. Poetry is why we're here, so let's get to it!

Today's prompt from NaPoWriMo asks participants to "find an Emily Dickinson poem – preferably one you’ve never previously read – and take out all the dashes and line breaks. Make it just one big block of prose. Now, rebreak the lines. Add words where you want. Take out some words. Make your own poem out of it!"

I hit the pause button on the April PAD prompt again because this was a big undertaking! After reading my resulting poem, the potential first publisher may wish the undertaker would come for me. Meh, it's not my problem if some people cannot recognize greatness!

Anyway, here are your Emily Dickinson resources, including links to the poems I abused...I mean, gleaned inspiration from.

I hope Emily might appreciate my resulting poem. I dedicated it to her.

I once knew a family where both the husband and wife were related to Emily Dickinson in one way or another. Don't ask me to try and remember how. The husband and my father both taught at the same college, and this is where I knew them from. Since those days, Death has kindly stopped for all of them, including my father.

I've been a right mess this week. I think I may finally be getting back to abnormal. I'll probably feel better after a little breakfast.

I was listening to this great 1978 Japanese jazz album while creating the post. Enjoy!

April PAD Challenge/NaPoWriMo 2022 Day 5

Good morning, Poetry People. Here is today's soundtrack inspiration for you. The link follows below in case you can't see the player.

It's too early to be awake but I may as well strike while the iron's hot. I started my morning sneezing my brains out and with a blood sugar of 223. I wasn't terribly surprised since I made rice with dinner last night and rice jacks my blood sugar like nothing else.

So, why would I make rice when I'm not even particularly fond of it? My son likes it, it went well with the meat component of the supper, and I couldn't be arsed to make an alternative for myself. Never mind all that. Just play the music and write the poetry.

Here are the prompts that I used in crafting today's poem, Insomaniac Nonsense, which featured a sporty Jabberwock.

Write a make sense poem and/or a don't make sense poem

Write about a mythical person or creature doing something unusual. A Jabberwock can't help doing things that are unusual. It is the living definition of unusual.

My computer is being a supreme piece of junk this morning. I'm going to try to go back to bed. Perhaps I will dream of Jabberwocks playing sports.

OctPoWriMo 2014: Day 14

A Poem for Mr. Poe
by his admirer,
Ms. Morella La Muerte

Edgar, would you climb the stairs with me
Up to the poetry room
We will while away the afternoon
And share the treasures of our minds

We will muse on the demons of our minds
Fears of burial alive
Fears of dying before our time
Fears of remaining alive too long after it

We will speak of dead things rising from tombs
Of crumbling old mansions
Of black cats and red death
Of kingdoms by the sea

Edgar, will you come write with me?
I know the demons from the darkness of your mind
Troubled you greatly as mine do me
We have known the foul tomb of despair

Edgar, would it surprise you to know
That your work was a light in my darkness?
That you inspired me to write rather than take my own life
That you may have done the same for many?

I am sorry for your suffering
I grieve for your despair
But I celebrate your gift to the world
I give thanks that you were here
