Petrichor is "a distinctive, earthy, usually pleasant odor that is associated with rainfall especially when following a warm, dry period and that arises from a combination of volatile plant oils and geosmin released from the soil into the air and by ozone carried by downdrafts."
The air smelled of petrichor on Saturday evening and there was a rainbow in the sky. The amount of rainfall was negligible.
I read statistics stating that 89% of the American west is in a drought with 58% of that being severe drought. We are in the 58% where I live. It has only rained a couple of times this summer and neither of those times amounted to much.
