OctPoWriMo 2014: Day 19

 Gloom

The rain in spain falls mainly on the
Melancholy musings of my mind
On a gray day spattered with
Drizzle from a dawn that never quite comes
To a dusk that never quite went away
Damp penetrates my very bones
Making me feel like a corpse
Rotting in a moldy tomb

Rainbow makes its way as the sun peeks out from behind
Cloudy curtain of gray froth dripping tears down on the
Grass wet with weeping from the gloomy sky
Somber is the mood on a day gray from a dawn that never quite comes
To a dusk that never left in the first place

~Aurora~

 The Words:

                  Melancholy
                  Drizzle
                  Damp
                  Rainbow
                  Cloudy
                  Grass
                  Somber

Aurora's Note:

I'm honestly not entirely sure where this came from. I like the rain, and although I do struggle with depression, I'm not feeling particularly gloomy at the moment, only tired.
I was listening to Pink Floyd while writing about an event that takes place in a horrible dystopian future, and then I read the Wikipedia entry about Syd Barrett. I don't know if any of this has a thing to do with my morose poem. The words just came, and I just let them flow.
The dog is British, apparently, as is Pink Floyd, so there's the reason why the whimsical mutt appears with an incongruously depressing poem.

The Same Mistake Twice

The Same Mistake Twice

Twenty-five years passed
Since the time I saw you last

You sent me a letter
Saying you were in town
Wondering if you'd see me 'round
Hoping we could meet

I convinced myself that you'd changed
That you had gotten better
But like every other sweet word
It was all a lie

You said you'd ditched the booze and the coke
You said you no longer even smoked
You said you'd learned your lesson
About playing around with hearts

I thought you'd come clean
But I discovered the truth
You weren't any better now
Than you'd been in my youth

You said you weren't tied down
You made me look like a clown
You took off your ring
In hopes of a fling

Turned out you'd married a stripper
Your fourth wife, I hear
Glad I found out
Before I let you get near

Near my body, that is
But you still invaded my heart
Even when you'd gone from my sight
Thoughts of you tore me apart

I know that you're all wrong for me
You're all wrong for everybody

The women you meet are nothing but toys
Who fall for the sweet little wounded boy

Your wife is your mistress
You like to engage in group scenes
With her, pornography, booze, and cocaine
And anyone else foolish enough
To walk into your snare

I've learned my lesson
I'm never going back there

But the heart is an illogical thing
And sometimes it still conjures up
Dreams of you and me
And what I once thought could be

~Tempest Nightingale LeTrope~

The prompt asked us to use another poem for inspiration and continue on the theme.
I tend to do everything in a really roundabout and convoluted way, because:

My inspiration points were the tribute poem to Ronnie James Dio written by Spectra Ghostseeker, Ronnie's song Rainbow Eyes, Sheryl Crow's song My Favorite Mistake, and the fact that there's no expiration date on stupidity. Even at my age, a person can still put on blinders and convince themselves that something bad can be good.

I woke up and called this mornin'
The tone of your voice was a warnin'
That you don't care for me anymore

I made up the bed we sleep in
I looked at the clock when you creep in
It's six a.m. and I'm alone

Did you know when you go
It's the perfect ending
To the bad day I was just beginning
When you go all I know is
You're my favorite mistake

Well, your friends are sorry for me
They watch you pretend to adore me
But I'm no fool to this game

Now here comes your secret lover
She'd be unlike any other
Until your guilt goes up in flames

Did you know when you go
It's the perfect ending
To the bad day I've got used to spendin'
When you go all I know is
You're my favorite mistake
You're my favorite mistake

Well maybe nothin' lasts forever
Even when you stay together
I don't need for ever after
It's your laughter won't let me go
So I'm holdin' on this way

Did you know, could you tell
You were the only one
That I ever loved
Now everything's so wrong

Did you see me walkin' by
Did it ever make you cry
You're my favorite mistake
You're my favorite mistake
You're my favorite mistake

A to Z Blogging Challenge: M is for Music and Mental Illness

A to Z Blogging Challenge:
M is for Music and Mental Illness
by
Illsa Gorrey

Hello, everybody. This is going to get kind of ranty, so before I start, I'll just say this. Anyone who reads the Undead in the Netherworld blog consistently knows that we utilize music a fair bit on our posts. You will also notice that a lot of the soundtrack music is hard rock and metal. That's because our stories are more metal than everybody's! ;-)
Winky face so nobody gets all butt hurt and bent out of shape.
KHEL 666 is our Multimedia blog, so we feature a lot of music there. A lot of that is hard rock and metal too.
We sometimes use music to drive a point home or to illustrate what we're feeling on Crazy Town in Looney Land (one of our Dropout Loser Quitter Blogs that didn't finish the A-Z Challenge.)
We might feature music occasionally on Poetry of the Netherworld. Because music is, after all, poetry in an instrumental setting.

This entry is going to be cross-posted over all of those blogs. Lazy? Whatever. We have other projects and problems. Sometimes we get lazy.
So before I start the rant, here is a playlist of relaxing music. This is the kind of music we listen to while editing, trying to meditate, or just because. We're eclectic here.
"You sound angry, Illsa. So you're not going to whip out the Death Metal on our asses?"
Nope. Not today.

Everyone involved with this series of blogs has a mental illness of one variety or another. Most of the participants have bipolar disorder. We met culling through mental health sites and found each other. Not all of our team members participate in the blogs very often. We have kind of a core group who are frequent participants. You'll see a lot of Tempest, a fair bit of me and Lily. Opal has been fairly active this month as well. Cie Cheesemeister is generally in the background, editing or creating her photoshop images. She doesn't directly post very often these days.

We are all broken people. We are not your happy go lucky chasing dreams and love types. That ship done sailed long ago, that train done left town. We are older, we have been abused, we realize that dreams don't tend to come true for people like us. We're waiting to die, we're just trying to make it more interesting while we wait.

I have discovered that I really hate certain words. Don't give me the "they're just words" schpiel. Let me call you a cuntbag and tell you "it's just a word." But think for a minute what your immediate reaction to being called a cuntbag is. Yeah, words have power. It's one of the reasons why bullying is so destructive. So let's put the "they're just words" bit to rest right now.

"Lazy" is a word that I hate.
I used to apply it to myself, anytime I was lying around so inert that I could barely get up to do anything. "Get up you lazy, stupid bitch! Get up!"
I was experiencing severe depression. I knew I was sad and miserable and had "no reason to be." I should have been able to "just get up." Or so I was told.

"Loser" is a word that I hate.
Many people are unable to become successful in life. There is too much onus placed on being some sort of superstar. Not being able to achieve a certain measure of success does not make a person a loser. I think there are plenty of really talented people who never become successful or famous.

"Quitter" is another word that I don't like.
People quit things for a variety of reasons. Maybe they give up too soon, but branding them with a label is never good. Many people have enough negative labels applied to them. Perhaps more like negative millstones. I know that all the negative terms that come to mind for myself weigh heavy on me.

Our M of the day is Music and Mental Illness and an admonition to put yourself in someone else's shoes before you apply a label to them.

Peace.
