November PAD Challenge 2021 Day 3: As Fall Leaves Fall

as fall leaves fall
in this season of contemplation
I reflect on summer's fading song
a ghoulish trick of light challenges me to consider
the voices of those who have been and gone
the laughter of spirits gives me no fright
so long as they come to heal my wounds
I welcome them into the scarlet ring drawn on the floor of my dwelling
at damp dusk the ceremony begins
the clock chimes and the truth is on trial
will I embrace the belief that upon the demise of my body
my soul will fly free like a bat from its cave
soaring over dark mountains
until the sun once again shines on the cornfields
and bees emerge from the hive to spread pollen far and wide
or were the spirits I have seen in my time only a mirage?

Don't be rude, Dude.
Don't be a prick, Slick.
That's all, Saul.
I try to get comments published as quickly as possible. I don't always reply to comments on my blog, but I do try to visit as many people as possible when I participate in blog hops and I share links where possible to Twitter, Facebook, Pinterest, and such so others can discover your work. I do read and appreciate your comments.
