Kill Yourself

Kill Yourself

TRIGGER WARNING:
SUICIDE TALK

You don't like how they express themselves
On a thread on Facebook or Tumblr or Twitter
So you sling mud in their direction

In your fervor to prove that you're right
You harass them long into the night

Eventually, you come to the crossroads
Where something tells you to stop this
Maybe something in you realizes that you could really hurt them
Do you let your better self shine through?
Or do you push them into the thorns?

You think you really have them now
You zero in like an owl hunting a mouse
Only you are something far worse
For birds have no ill intent
They are only satiating their hunger

Perhaps the next day
As the sun rose in the sky
You found out that they took your words to heart

KILL YOURSELF

When you find out that they committed suicide
Because of your bullying
Will you then feel remorse?

Or will you snuff out the last of your humanity at that moment
Crushing your regret
As you would stomp down a budding crocus pushing through the snow
On the grave of one who committed suicide because of you?

DON'T TELL PEOPLE TO KILL THEMSELVES!
THEY JUST MIGHT TAKE IT TO HEART.

  1. Society's attitude to suicide is really a reflection of how we perceive people should be - how we should all belong...fit in..be the same....it's antiquated, patriarchal bullshit...and i am glad you wrote this...until the world embraces difference bullies will always out number humanity..so in some small way we must out them..

    1. So true. Thank you for speaking up on this important subject.
I was badly bullied when I was in school. This was in the late 1970s, before internet use. I don't know if I would have survived if there was cyber bullying on top of the regular bullying.

  3. People seem to easily forget how much power words can have, even to the ending of a life. Thank you for this one,

  4. What a two edged sword the gift of words is whether spoken of written. How much easier it is to turn away in silence than to make matters worse. Perhaps humanity is the least humane of all the creatures.

    1. A fine truth, Oldegg. If you can't say something nice, don't say anything.
If I feel the need to speak against something, I decry the action, not the individual.

We love comments, with three caveats.
Be cool, Fool.
Don't be rude, Dude.
Don't be a prick, Slick.
That's all, Saul.
I try to get comments published as quickly as possible. I don't always reply to comments on my blog, but I do try to visit as many people as possible when I participate in blog hops and I share links where possible to Twitter, Facebook, Pinterest, and such so others can discover your work. I do read and appreciate your comments.
