April PAD Challenge + NaPoWriMo 2024 Day 28

Image by Mohamed Hassan from Pixabay

Hey Poetry People, only two more days left in this year's April PAD Challenge/NaPoWriMo set!

I wrote a gloomy little Sijo. The NaPoWriMo prompt will tell you how a Sijo works.

The April PAD Challenge prompt asked for a dead poem.

I also utilized a prompt from Carpe Diem Haiku's archive.

Winter rain and memories of those no longer in the corporeal realm. That's about as melancholy as it gets!

I've got clever designs on using my writing Tumblr as a vehicle for a weekly recap as well as for other promotional posts and interesting stuff. Check it out if you like!

"Dang! That was close!"

I realized that the acronym for Mass Effect Andromeda Tempest is MEAT, and now I can't unrealize it.

Long Time No Poem

Image by Gordon Johnson from Pixabay

I will take part in both NaPoWriMo and the April PAD Challenge from Writers Digest this year but I will not post the poems I create here because I am submitting them for consideration in the Soul Ink anthology from Dragon Soul Press. My theme is Vipers in the Shadows. Hence the image of snakes at the top of the post.

If you have poetry you'd like to submit to Dragon Soul Press, here is the link containing the info you need.

I will try to share some prompts that inspire me and some possibly helpful background music, but I make no promises.

You can stop by and see what else I'm up to at http://crazycreativescheerleadingcamp.blogspot.com

How could I pass up sharing this cutie?

Here's the link you'll want to use to check out the challenge.

I wish you luck in your poetry adventures. It's a shame that I end up having to choose between submitting my poetry for publication or participating more personally in the poetry prompt challenges.

Where in Cyberspace is OctPoWriMo? Plus Other Beginning of the Month Blather

Image by Syaibatul Hamdi from Pixabay

This was my face when I went to the OctPoWriMo site and got a blank page.

This will be the first year since 2013 that I haven't taken part in OctPoWriMo.

I could run my own version like I did with the 30 Days of Haiga, but unless the site comes back from the grave, I think I will instead concentrate on editing The Wizard's Key. Yes, I'm still working on editing The Wizard's Key. How dare you insinuate that I'm slow just because Ketil and Yitzy's Adventure in the Xura Dream House was released in 2019 and The Wizard's Key was finished in 2020 but I'm still editing it.

I'll check again tomorrow, but at the moment it looks like this may be the first October in 9 years where I'm not participating in a month-long poetry challenge.

Unfortunately, it looks like the October Spooky Writing Challenge may be a no-show this year too.

I will be submitting Lucina Entombed, a story I completed at the end of 2020, to Dragon Soul Press for potential publication in their Union anthology.

Dragon Soul Press has ongoing anthology openings, so if that sort of thing really is your bag, Baby, be sure to check them out.

Update 22 October 2021

Image by Markus Winkler from Pixabay

Hello to my -666 fans.

I haven't abandoned the poetry challenge. I decided to devote my energies to my story for this year's Deathlehem anthology from Grinning Skull Press. I only found out about the anthology this month. Now that I know that the Deathlehem anthology is an annual thing, I will start on next year's entry earlier when I know the theme.

I will start back into the poetry challenge with today's prompt, because as Hal T. Petorayn says in my Deathlehem entry, Silent Scream, "the T stands for Today because there is no day like today to begin." I will mix the missed prompts with the November PAD Challenge prompts.

While creation is my preferred aspect of writing, I'm learning that I'm not "letting things slide" when I take time for editing or when I realize that I can't be constantly embroiled in multiple projects. After a time, it becomes like horrible homework when I'm constantly putting pressure on myself to be all things to everyone. I'm not going to do that anymore.
