Poetry Prompts and Inspiration Day 14 April PAD Challenge and NaPoWriMo 2023

Good morning, afternoon, evening, or whatever! Today's April PAD Challenge prompt asks participants to write a "And Now For Something Completely Different" Poem. Surprisingly, I did not write a poem about a man with three buttocks, although I certainly could have.

Today's NaPoWriMo prompt asks participants to write a parody or satire based on a famous poem.

I didn't use a poem. I satirized the lyrics to Blurred Lines while telling a story that is, unfortunately, completely the same. It is the story of a woman (me) enduring harassment while walking down the street minding my own business.

This incident happened in 1984 when I was nineteen years old. I never wanted to leave my apartment because I couldn't even walk a mile to catch the bus without morons catcalling me. I did not find this "flattering." I found it disgusting and depressing. I was always on edge.

Sadly, misogynistic crap like Blurred Lines shows that we really have not come a long way, Baby.

This gal doesn't look like the sort to put up with any Blurred Lines bullshit.

As you probably already guessed, I was most assuredly not listening to Blurred Lines while creating this post. I was listening to actual good music instead.

April PAD Challenge/NaPoWriMo 2022 Day 11

Hello Poetry People. My piece today went in a feminist direction, and not the sexy fun kind. I'll give you the prompts I used and then explain my inspiration.

True Power

Prompts Used

Write a poem about a very large thing

Write a power poem

I am a very large female thing and it's no secret that large women get shit on by society. However, some of you may find it hard to believe is big women are both reviled and targeted as conquests by creepy men who think we're all desperate and easy marks. In my case, you can add being socially awkward and now physically disabled to the mix.

The end result? Being hit on by the same nasty-ass men who make rude comments about my body because they don't think I have the self-respect to tell them to fuck off entirely.

Being desirable to men is not my life's purpose and it shouldn't be any woman's life's purpose. If that man doesn't like me for me, even if he deigns to accept me despite my being fat and "ugly," what the fuck do I need his useless ass around for? I don't.

Never accept someone's emotional abuse. You deserve better than that. And, if you happen to be large in a society that keeps trying to sell us dumb diet plans that don't work, fuck that emotional abuse too.

Here's a bonus track for today's inspiration. Someone made a cool animation for Helen Reddy's beautifully eerie song Angie Baby. I hope you enjoy it!

Troiku Challenge 2019: Day 9: Pink Flowers Bloom

pink flowers in bloom
for the pretty princesses
darling little girls

pink flowers in bloom
pruned and fed fertilizer
twisted and transformed

for the pretty princesses
gifts wrapped in shiny paper
empty box of lies

darling little girls
hide ugly little secrets
not pretty inside

~Cie~

Notes:
A Senryu in honor of little girls who are taught from a young age that our only real worth is in our ability to be pleasing to the eyes and desires of men.
