Nothing Remains the Same
Adapt to everything, no matter how awful
Because that's the only way to achieve balance
Comfort zone equals complacency
Dreams do not equal destiny
Everything ends
Fate cannot be fought
Good things come to those with goals
However, life does not always end happily
Insistence on an outcome is idiocy
Just go where the flow takes your jetty
Kill your darlings kindly
Let yourself not be lulled
Mediocrity has no merit
Nostalgia is neediness
Ownership is oblivion
Precious dreams are predators
Quiet hopes quelled
Reduced to ash by reality
Stagnation is seductive
To those who fear transformation
Unhappy are those unyielding
Vying for the desired outcome is vanity
Wishing to avoid change is weak
Xenophobic
Yearning for yesterday
Zaps today's zeal

Note:
I honestly think some of the ideas we are taught about living for today are quite lacking in empathy for those grieving a loss. This poem is cold and harsh, not encouraging in any way.
I love this one!
ReplyDeleteWell done on the double ABC
I agree, some advice can sound quite harsh!
I think mostly, the problem is in the tone that advice is given. At least it was for me 😊
I agree. I've known a lot of very "practical" people in my life. They tend to be very harsh and not compassionate. I don't need such people.
DeleteFor me, Cara, this poem offers advice or self-talk that is given with a tone of encouragement for healing. This is a favorite line: "Just go where the flow takes your jetty". I love alliteration. Thank you. xoA
ReplyDeleteIt's interesting how two people can interpret something so differently. For me, it sounds like the harsh self-talk that I learned from my family of origin and tend to snarl at myself to this day when I feel sad or lost.
DeleteI like the photo. you write so many truths here
ReplyDeleteThank you. :-)
DeleteI was certain I'd commented on this poem!
ReplyDeleteI like it :)
To me, this line is a poem by itself because it tels so much with so little words: Kill your darlings kindly
ReplyDeleteI think you've made the ABC for much more interesting by alliterating it. There's a sharpness to the poem that I love (it stings) and makes me sad at the same time. Everything is interpretation, I know.
These days I even get angry when I see yet another blog post with advice on how to live life. They really, really, really bother me. I'm wondering if that will change when my state of mind changes (which I expect it will, I don't know how long it will take though).
"Dreams do not equal destiny." This stood out for me.
