Painting by Scott Moore
It seems that I went from
Losing teeth
To being long in the tooth
Jumping and sliding
From one year to the next
Always hoping in vain
For things to ease up

The only place where you can dream
Living here is not what it seems

We love comments, with three caveats.
Be cool, Fool.
Don't be rude, Dude.
Don't be a prick, Slick.
That's all, Saul.
I try to get comments published as quickly as possible. I don't always reply to comments on my blog, but I do try to visit as many people as possible when I participate in blog hops and I share links where possible to Twitter, Facebook, Pinterest, and such so others can discover your work. I do read and appreciate your comments.
I love the idea of moving from losing teeth to being long in the tooth. A perfect description of life's journey.
ReplyDeleteAll downhill, but a lovely ride! I liked this, it made me smile because I often feel the same way.
ReplyDeleteThank you both. It's just that sometimes life seems to be such a hamster wheel. Forget smelling the roses, I'd be glad to be able to see them as something besides a blur as I passed them!
ReplyDeleteI think those wishes start early. Great work with the prompt.
ReplyDeleteThe old "here today, gone tomorrow". Time definitely moves too fast for many of us. Thank you for linking up!
ReplyDeleteThis is so profound. The time in between passes without notice.
ReplyDeleteThis is profound and so true.
ReplyDeleteThis is profound.
ReplyDeleteYou are correct! We do tend to trade one burden for another as time passes by. But, the need to bear those burdens never really ceases, does it? Like the others who have commented, I appreciate how deftly you described an entire life's journey, all in a single sentence. Well done. :)
ReplyDeleteLove the wordplay.. and it's definitely downhill at one point... but the alternative is worse.
ReplyDeleteThis is great! Who hasn't felt this way at some point?
ReplyDeleteNice job with the prompt!
Thank you all for your comments. A thought I have often is "when the hell did I get to be nearly fifty, and what the hell happened?"
ReplyDeleteSomething my late father said rings true as well: "We grow too soon old and too late smart."
It certainly was true for me! I'm still cleaning up a lot of messes I made in my younger days.
So many of us do the same. Eloquently captured. Thank you.
ReplyDeleteThe journey from losing teeth to long in the teeth does happen fast. I really like those first few lines!
ReplyDeleteThank you Betty and Janna. :-)
ReplyDeleteIt gets unwieldy when thinking how fast things move. It tugs at the conscience thinking of things left unaccomplished. One gets this feeling all the time.Nicely Cie!

Thank you Kaykuala.
