Ornery Film Review: Lucifer Rising

1972 arthouse film by Kenneth Anger. The film is heavy on Thelemic symbolism. The soundtrack for this version was composed by Bobby Beausoleil, who was initially supposed to star in the film as Lucifer, but his scenes were cut and used in another Anger film, Invocation of My Demon Brother. More about the contentious working relationship between Anger and Beausoleil can be found in the Wikipedia entry for the film.

There is also a version of Lucifer Rising featuring a soundtrack by Jimmy Page.

Anger initially approached Mick Jagger to star as Lucifer in the film. Jagger composed a soundtrack, which was instead used in Invocation of My Demon Brother. Mick Jagger's brother Chris appears in the film as the mage in the yellow tunic. Jimmy Page appears as the man holding the Stele of Revelation.

The film could benefit from restoration, but it is worth a look.

That's all, Saul.
I try to get comments published as quickly as possible. I don't always reply to comments on my blog, but I do try to visit as many people as possible when I participate in blog hops and I share links where possible to Twitter, Facebook, Pinterest, and such so others can discover your work. I do read and appreciate your comments.
