April PAD Challenge/NaPoWriMo 2022 Day 6

Greetings Poetic types and welcome to the sixth day of the April PAD Challenge/NaPoWriMo for 2022. I've provided today's poetry soundtrack, including a link in case you can't see the embedded player.

I had a bout of stronger than usual depression yesterday. Today's poem, Pain in the Soul, discusses my tendency towards spring depression, something that very few people seem to understand even though statistically April is the cruelest month. More people commit suicide in April than during the winter holidays. Two days from now will be the thirty-first anniversary of the suicide of a very troubled and quite unforgettable person.

Pain in the Soul

Prompts Used
Write a blank in the blank poem

Write a variation of an acrostic poem. Rather than spelling out a word with the first letters of each line, write a poem that reproduces a phrase with the first words of each line.

I used my own Haiku, Spring Awakens, as the basis for the acrostic.

The results of the November PAD Chapbook Challenge are in. I didn't win and didn't expect to. I don't think my poetry is quite the host's cup of tea, but I'll keep creating chapbooks anyway, which I will later self-publish because I'm an asshole like that.

Days like this I wish I had someone I could pour out the grim and frostbitten contents of my cold black heart to, but I don't and I won't so there's fuck-all use of getting my hopes up for something that isn't going to happen. I know better these days.

April PAD Challenge/NaPoWriMo 2022 Day 5

Good morning, Poetry People. Here is today's soundtrack inspiration for you. The link follows below in case you can't see the player.

It's too early to be awake but I may as well strike while the iron's hot. I started my morning sneezing my brains out and with a blood sugar of 223. I wasn't terribly surprised since I made rice with dinner last night and rice jacks my blood sugar like nothing else.

So, why would I make rice when I'm not even particularly fond of it? My son likes it, it went well with the meat component of the supper, and I couldn't be arsed to make an alternative for myself. Never mind all that. Just play the music and write the poetry.

Here are the prompts that I used in crafting today's poem, Insomaniac Nonsense, which featured a sporty Jabberwock.

Write a make sense poem and/or a don't make sense poem

Write about a mythical person or creature doing something unusual. A Jabberwock can't help doing things that are unusual. It is the living definition of unusual.

My computer is being a supreme piece of junk this morning. I'm going to try to go back to bed. Perhaps I will dream of Jabberwocks playing sports.

April PAD Challenge/NaPoWriMo 2022 Day 4

Good morning. Here is your Soundtrack Inspiration for the fourth day of NaPoWriMo/April PAD Challenge.

Here is the link in case you can't see the player.

Here are the prompts that I used to create today's poem entitled "How to Write a Catch-Up Poem As Explained by a Superior Alien Overlord," which I dedicated to that master of speculative fiction in cool black and white tones, Rod Serling.

Write a (surrealist) poem in the form of a poetry prompt.

Write a catch-up poem.

I may not be back tomorrow. When I proved myself incapable of performing the necessary Sextonian mathematics to satisfy the alien overlord's poetic request, he asked me to bring him his favorite cookbook. Its title?

Another Autumn #8Sunday #MFRWHooks #SnipSun

Blurb
A mixed bag of poetry from the deranged brain behind Naughty Netherworld Press.

Excerpt
This is the first poem from Another Autumn.

I find myself standing

On the edge of another autumn

Wondering if this is the year

That the world disappears

And I slide into nothing

And I am devoured

By all the foolish dreams

That I abandoned by the roadside

As I run from my past

Into a fragile future

Each new year as harrowing as the one just passed

April PAD Challenge/NaPoWriMo 2022 Day 3

Here is the link to today's soundtrack in case you can't see the player.

The following are the prompts that I used to create today's poem.

Write a Glosa

Here is a detailed explanation of the Glosa with a sample poem.

Write a second chance poem

Write a smell poem

I chose H. P. Lovecraft's "A Garden" as the inspiration for my Glosa.

Lovecraft wrote the poem in 1917. It was first published in The Vagrant, Spring 1927.

A welcome bit of hilarity. As an extra treat, I present you with eldritch culinary horror.

Here are the four Lovecraftian lines that inspired my Glosa. I don't have to kill anyone for reading these. Lovecraft's work is in the public domain.

There are vines in nooks and crannies, and there’s moss about the pool,

And the tangled weedy thicket chokes the arbour dark and cool:

In the silent sunken pathways springs an herbage sparse and spare,

Where the musty scent of dead things dulls the fragrance of the air.

April PAD Challenge/NaPoWriMo Day 2

Today's soundtrack for poetry creation.
Here is the link in case you can't see the player.

Today I used the following prompts to create a cheeky free-verse poem entitled Aprosexia.

Optional prompt: write a poem about spring

write a poem based on a word featured in a tweet from Haggard Hawks, an account devoted to obscure and interesting English words.

I can't share the poem here because then I'd have to kill everyone who might come into contact with this blog. Since I'm too lazy and not bloodthirsty enough to be bothered with that, I'll just wish you a happy second day of poetry immersion.

A less Ornery than usual Ornery Owl says:
"We're just getting started on this journey, Folks!"

We'll just see if Ornery is still blowing sunshine up your posterior halfway through the month!

April PAD Challenge/NaPoWriMo Day 1

Here is the link in case you can't see the player.

Welcome to a month of wonderful music courtesy of the independent content creators at Odysee. You may choose to use the music to enhance your own creative experience.

I used the above soundtrack when creating today's poem, a Haibun entitled My Body is Fucked. It describes the experience of living in a body deemed unacceptable by society.

Here are the links for the prompts I used to create the poem.

As I explained in my March 31 post, I will not be publishing my poems on this blog because I am collecting them in a chapbook manuscript for submission to The Temz Review so they need to be previously unpublished. The deadline for submission is April 30.

Because I can't publish my poems on the blog without disqualifying them, my contribution to the NaPoWriMo experience this year is sharing soundtracks and prompt links that may inspire.

Here is a link to my March 31 post.
